Mojoportal video tutorial

Hi, Joe

I and my gf did one video tutorial about " How to control site hierarchy and etc". So please check this link and tell us what you think. Better watch youtube HD version as it is closer to the original quality.

Unfortunately, English is not my native language so if you want you can send us a better audio recording and we will put it together.  If you like this video we can try to make more.  I also can send the video file to you to host it on your site (the size is about 4.5 megabytes).

Best regards.

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Hi Vitaliy,

That is awesome! You are much better at making demo videos than I am. I would love it if you make more, it would be a great contribution to the project. The only thing I noticed is you used an older version of mojoPortal, we changed to text links by default instead of gears and pencils etc in recent versions so it would be better to use the latest version if you make more tutorials. Please tell me your full name so I can list you in the credits, I will add a link to this video on our training videos page.

Thanks!

Joe

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Thanks,

But voice has to be changed. I can send you a storyboard of this video and you can register your voice (or anybody with good pronouncement) and send me back.  Then I will try to normalize and remove noises from your recording.Does it work for you?

Would be better if you list in the credits my girlfriend as she did almost all routine as a designer . I wrote only storyboard and register the voice (and of course ask her to contribute to Mojoportal). Her name is Olga Kulahina (Olga Blue).

Best regards,

Vitaliy Akudovich

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Hi Vitaliy,

I've added a link and credits here: http://www.mojoportal.com/trainingvideos.aspx

If you make more training videos I will also list you both in the main credits page here http://www.mojoportal.com/developers.aspx

I don't think it needs to have the audio replaced. I had no trouble at all understanding you, I think your English pronunciation is not bad, you don't give yourself enough credit.

Best,

Joe

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Ok,

I will start to work on other videos, but actually it takes a lot of time to do a good one. So  I will upgrade my mojoportal to the latest version but this video tutorial I am not going to record again for the latest version of Mojoportal (Probably I will do it later). I can send you this video to post it on your channel.

Would be nice to find some good English voice in order to make this video more professional (corporate guys like that).

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Hi Joe,

Finally I finished next one Quick Start Tutorial. I created separate mojoportal channel and put both videos into the channel. Actually first one was improved, so please change your link to the newest one. I will put all future videos to this channel (hope they will be released faster than Quick Start Tutorial video).

Best regards, Vitaliy

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Hi Vitaliy,

These are fantastic! I've updated the links, I've also created pages on this site with the videos embedded.

http://www.mojoportal.com/training-videos-quick-start-tutorial.aspx

http://www.mojoportal.com/video-creating-pages-and-managing-the-site-hierarchy.aspx

I really appreciate your help with these and thanks for creating the mojoPortal channel on YouTube! Is there a way I can move some of my other videos to this channel?

Many Thanks!

Joe

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Thanks! I like it, nice music by Olga Blue too!

Can you tell me what software you use to make these screen casts? I have been struggling all day to make a video with Expression Encoder and Expression Encoder Screen Capture. First I was getting really bad video quality after uploading, you could not read the text on the screen, then I figured out how to capture at 720p but after I upload it the sound is out of sync. I think I need better software.

Best,

Joe

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Hi Joe,
I use Camtasia Studio 6 (actually Camtasia recorder) to record the screen. And I use Wavepad to record the sound. Later on I sync sound and video in Camtasia Studio. And my microphone is a very cheap about 2$ (from Dollar Store) but somehow it is better than 80$ microphone from Logitec.
The whole process looks like that.
1. Write your scenario on the paper (the text to say + actions on the screen)

2. Record the sound with Wavepad
2.1 Normalize sound to 93-97% (not 100%)
2.2 Reduce the noise -30db
2.3 Listen your whole recording if some pieces to quite even after normalization -then amplify them.
2.4 Cut all unnessary sounds
2.5 Export as mp3 with 192 kb/s

3. Start camtasia recorder.
3.1 If you target Youtube rememer there is a vide size ratio is 16:9. So youtube HD format is 1280:720 (16:9). But I always record the screen with bigger size 1472:828 (ratio has to be 16:9 !!!).
3.2 While adding your freshly recording video (camrec file) to the Studio choose the size 1280:720 (Youtube HD size).

3.3 Sync sound and video (the biggest routine)
3.4 Add zooming efects. The 16:9 ratio is very important to follow especially while using zooming effects.
3.5 Add callouts (arrows and etc.)
3.6. Choose "Custom" (do not use Camtasia presets for youtube) production with next parameters:
video size - 1280:720
video type - mp4 (usually good quality and small size)
audio (check it) should be 192 kb/s (by default camtasia using the lowest)
also choose 24 framerate (by default 15), so some tranitions looks cheesy with 15 frames.
3.7 Finally export video.
4. Review the result as there are some bugs in Camtasia and you can expect some suprises (as black blinks).
4.1 If there are blinks then open your freshly produced mp4 and cut it out. Produce this projects.
5. Upload to youtube.

Best regards,

Vitaliy

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Thanks Vitaliy,

What OS are you using? I'm using Win7 64 bit, I wonder if some of these programs have problems under 64 bit. I remember once before having problems with audio/video timing in a previous version of Camtasia.

If you have 2 monitors does it matter which one you use to capture, maybe my problem is from using the secondary monitor instead of the main one?

Thanks again for your tips! I will try again to make a good video tomorrow.

Best,

Joe

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

Actually important thing to do in order to record the audio piece is setup your microphone level in your (OS). Level should not be high or low. Low it is about -30 -25 db (as result audio is too noisy). High -5db or 0db (as result you get clipping). The best situation if your voice level jumps between from -15db to -5db. And turn off any microphone boost in your OS.

Re: Mojoportal video tutorial

I am using Win7 32 bit. I used two monitors and recorded from the  main one. I suspect that it does not matter which monitor do you use.  Ye, Camtasia studio is pretty lame and costs about 300$. For example Pinnacle  (you can not record there your screen) as video studio superior than Camtasia and costs about 100$.

Best.
