Using Windows Live Writer with Your Blog

Reading through previous posts, it looks like there were plans for MP to support the MetaWeblog API as a blog provider. Did this happen?

There is an entry in the MP documentation on Using Windows Live Writer with Your Blog but the fact that there's no content may be a sign that this feature was never implemented.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Using Windows Live Writer with Your Blog

Very interesting question, I would like this to be functioning as well. But I seriously doubt it, especially after blog excerpts been added in last releases, which would probably mean, that the implementation would need to be altered. To be honest, I am so happy with the possibility to make manual excerpts that much, that I don't even try to beg Joe for Live Writer support  :-)

Actually, I once googled a piece of source code showing the implementation of MetaWeblog API in mojoPortal... Something sure has been done. Question is what and when.

Re: Using Windows Live Writer with Your Blog

I think you can reasonably hope to see Live Writer support in the near future. Tom Opgenorth had implemented the metaweblogapi well enough that he was using it on his blog quite a while ago. He had indicated he was still testing it and never said it was finished or ready to include.

That of course was before the blog had friendly urls and also before the blog was moved out of the core projects into the mojoPortal.Features.* projects so its for sure that some code review and changes will be needed. I have had it on my mind and have actually recently harvested the code from Tom's svn sandbox and brought it into the main svn tree though I have not yet compiled it nor even added the code to the Visual Studio project, I moved it there with the inention of integrating it soon though. Since it was basically working I'm hoping it wil be relatively low hanging fruit to get it up to date.

Best,

Joe

Thanks for the replies. Getting support for WLW would be great!

Re: Using Windows Live Writer with Your Blog

FYI, I've got it working with Live Writer on my local machine, so it will be available in the next release coming soon.

Best,

Joe

Re: Using Windows Live Writer with Your Blog

Live writer support has been deployed to the demo site for those who want to try it, see this article:

http://www.mojoportal.com/usingwindowslivewriterwithyourblog.aspx

Hoping to ship a new release to include this feature in a few days.

Cheers,

Joe

Re: Using Windows Live Writer with Your Blog

There is no physical file metaweblogapi.ashx, but requests for that file are mapped to a handler in Web.config in the handlers section.

Re: Using Windows Live Writer with Your Blog

Are ok, thats cool. And it works! :)

But it seems to be a bit limited: No Updating/Edit Support for a post? Categories cannot be created, etc.
