Survey Feature - Export to CSV file

Survey Feature - Export to CSV file

I was playing with the Survey feature and noticed you could export the results to a CSV file.

So I created a test survey, and answered it a few times, then exported my results.

However, the resulting file has some usability issues.  The following fields are exported: AnswerGuid, QuestionGuid, ResponseGuid, Answer, AnsweredDate, Name, and Email.  The survey question itself is not exported as plain text.

I'm not terribly concerned with having the Guids in the CSV file.  But since you can have the same answer for multiple questions, it would be very useful to include the Question text in the CSV file also.

This is not a high priority item, but it would make the survey feature a lot friendlier to use.

Hi Lorien,

I see this as a feature request rather than a bug. It currently exports the data in the same structure that it is stored in the database.

To be honest, I have no intentions of making improvements to the Survey feature myself. My reasons are purely selfish, I plan to make an upgrade of my Form Wizard Pro add on product so that it supports surveys. Currently its like a one page survey, but I already tackled the export issue in Form Wizard, even though it stores data similar to Survey, I transform it into a table with questions as columns, before exporting. So, it will be working against my own interests if I were to try and improve the free Survey feature. It competes against a paid product I'm selling so I can eek out a living. All I need to do is make Form Wizard support multi-page forms and basically its a survey. I hope to release the upgraded version by the end of January and I hope it will sell more once it can do surveys.

Your answer makes perfect sense to me.  Like I said, I was just playing with the survey feature, and don't have any great need for the CSV export results to be expanded at this time.

If I have a customer request this before the upgraded form wizard is available, I'll see about writing a new export feature myself.
