Forcing host name gotcha with http prefix

Not sure if this counts as a bug, but I think it could be improved.

If you use the facility to force a preferred host name (as documented here http://www.mojoportal.com/forcing-a-preferred-host-name.aspx) and enter your preferred host name with "http://" in front then your site is broken.  i.e. "www.mysite.com" is OK, but "http://www.mysite.com" makes the site inaccessible, causing wailing and gnashing of teeth (and requiring editing the mp_Sites table).

cheers

Crispin

Re: Forcing host name gotcha with http prefix

I'll add something to strip out those unexpected characters to prevent this particular case but there are certainly risks of making the site inaccessible by putting something incorrect there and I can't prevent that completely, it is documented. If any small typo or mistake is made the site will become inaccessible. That is why this setting is disabled and hidden by default from Web.config, it is only meant for use by those who understand what it is and what it does and who are prepared to fix it in the database if something goes wrong.

Best,

Joe
