ecommerce options - What is your experience?

Hi,

I'm looking to set up ecommerce solution using mojoportal (which is excellent by the way).

Anyway I was looking to poll view and get suggestions on the best and most cost effective way of setting up the ecommerce.

I have started with the Paypal standard method as I already have a normal paypal account to buy personal stuff. Now since the mojoportal documentation was set up the paypal link has changed (http://www.mojoportal.com/using-paypal-standard.aspx) and takes you to a page to get Website payment Standard or Payflow Link.

What option would be best from there as the payflow seems the right method but there is a prohibitive set up cost.

There are also other methods i.e by google or Authorize.NET or PlugNPay What are people best (and most cost efficient way of setting up a store and is it a good idea to have several methods of payment.

Another factor to make this forum discussion would also to factor in types of sales (i.e for many products, for just one occasional sale, for downloads etc...)

Cheers

Re: ecommerce options - What is your experience?

Hi,

mojoPortal WebStore is not yet a full blown ecommerce solution, it is good for selling download products.

http://www.mojoportal.com/e-commercesolution.aspx

PayPal Standard is supported PayFlow is not.

PayPal and Google Checkout are the most economical payment systems available and I think it is wise to offer both, but there are some differences in what they allow. For example Google Checkout does not allow you to use it for donations unless you are a non-profit, so for example people can buy add on products for mojoPortal using google checkout but to Buy Joe a Beer only is allowed with PayPal. So we have a way to mark a product as a donation and disable google checkout if someone adds it to the cart.

Actual cost of using PayPal or Google Checkout is almost identical to each other.

I'm not sure of the costs for others such as Authorize.NET other than I'm sure they cost more and have monthly fees in addition to transaction fees, so one has to be doing a lot of business to justify the costs.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: ecommerce options - What is your experience?

Joe,

Thanks for that it does really help to understand the options like this. You mention that it is not full blown e-commerce "yet". How far down your list do you see this? and is there a forthcoming features list anywhere?

Anyway keep up the great work, enjoy the beer and I do encourage other mojoportal users to buy a Beer,

Cheers,

Simon

Re: ecommerce options - What is your experience?

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the beer! Much appreciated.

We have a Road Map that lists big picture project goals.

http://www.mojoportal.com/roadmap.aspx

However, I cannot give any idea about when specific things will be done. My time is pulled between developing more add on features for sale and improving the free parts of mojoPortal and I'm constantly pulled in different directions.

Best,

Joe
