Cannot login from China

Hi Joe, i am in China today!

I am shocked to surf the internet here, as most the useful websites are banned, (youtube, rapidshare, SLASHDOT!, and parts of wikipedia like this:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_the_People%27s_Republic_of_China - this is funny, it loads and you can read the page, and after 3 seconds the page gets replaced by a "DNS error" ... lol)

btw, i wanted to log in my website (my server is not banned), and i cannot login, the page hangs forever

i am using the same laptop that I use in Europe, so it should works, tried both firefox and ie - both failed

rpxnow does not work here, but i am not using it

what is preventinting login in the website in china?

also i cannot login to mojoportal.com in China, i had to RDP to my server, and log in from that (painfully slowwwwwwwwwwww)

Re: Cannot login from China

It sounds like the problem is that the page is trying to load the rpx javascript but since its blocked, it blocks the UI waiting for that script to either load or timeout. Until one of those happens it doesn't let you use the other login options on the page. I'm not sure of a good solution off hand but will keep it in mind and ponder it.

Thanks for pointing this issue out.

Best,

Joe

Re: Cannot login from China

I understand what is causing the problem.

The page is not interactive (ie you can't use the normal login) until all the files it loads like css or javascript or iframes are completely loaded or the requests for them are timed out. The problem is most likely that RPX is blocked in China so those files can't load therefore the page is not usable until the requests for rpx have timed out. If I disabled RPX and removed it from the page it would probably fix it but I have no easy way to determine if the request is coming from China or other places where the internet is censored and RPX is blocked.

Best,

Joe

Re: Cannot login from China

Hi Joe, i fixed the problem by changing provider.

With the old one, China telecom (CDMA), i was not able to login from China

Now, with China Unicom (UMTS), i can login from China

Maybe it was a temporary problem, not dependant by the "internet filter", but now the rpx box is showing correctly, while previously it would have blank spaces instead of the images
