The Web Design & Multimedia Production Coordinator provides leadership and direction for development and maintenance of websites, social media communication and multimedia production within Colab, a department of the Charles A. Lory Student Center at Colorado State University.  This on-premises coordinator will supervise student hourly staff members (which may include graphic designers focused on web design, videographers, and social media creatives); oversee and support Lory Student Center departments on web design related matters; and coordinate web design needs for Colab. Coordination responsibilities encompass software and other technologies.  The position reports to the Director of Marketing. This is a year-round, full-time, on-premises administrative professional position with full university benefits.

Colab is the marketing shop at Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center, a part of the Division of Student Affairs at Colorado State University.  Collaborative, communicative, consultative, cooperative -- Colab explains the co-ownership created with the student Center’s business partners, service partners and student organizations seeking to disseminate messages to the Colorado State campus.

 

Mixing old-world techniques like print design, with forward-thinking strategies like social media, Colab emphasizes a strategic planning and integrative marketing approach. From project conceptualization to final delivery and measurement of outcomes, Colab team members consult with clients to create effective marketing programs that achieve and exceed organization goals.

About The Division

The Division of Student Affairs at Colorado State University encompasses a wide array of departmental services and programs addressing the needs of a student body of about 26,000 at a major state land grant university.  Colorado State University is in Fort Collins, a city of 125,000, located 50 miles north of Denver at the western edge of the Great Plains and at the Eastern base of the Rocky Mountains.  With its ideal climate and easy access to numerous outdoor activities, Fort Collins is included on several “best places to live” lists.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Coordinate with the Lory Student Center IT Department and internal users to capture requirements, consult to establish priorities for web site design and to plan, review, and evaluate the Lory Student Center web page;

 

Participate in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines regarding Lory Student Center and departmental web site design, content and maintenance.  Develop web project documents outlining objectives, requirements and milestones;

 

Develop web page infrastructure and utilize applications to ensure technical performance;

 

Coordinate with supervisor to train departmental personnel and students in designing, developing, streamlining and maintaining web pages using HTML,  Dreamweaver, JavaScript and other similar programming languages for web page design and maintenance;

 

Research, track, and recommend technologies and develop execution of content related to digital signage system;

 

Operate independently as well as within cross-functional teams to solve errors and communicate project statuses;

 

Provide excellent customer service to all levels of users and encourage timeliness and accuracy of web page information and resolution of problems;

 

Design web pages, and guide web page solutions;

 

Write original, strategically developed content for the web site and digital signage, and edit contributed content as needed;

 

Monitor web site for consistency, cross-referencing and compliance with University standards for web site content and development. Test, maintain and ensure functionality of links;

 

Utilize search engines to maximize user’s ability to search site content.  Optimize web architecture for easy navigation by web browsers;

 

Work with network personnel on issues of hardware/software that affect the web site.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art, computer science, computer mediated communication, technical communication, or related area of study, and three or more years of full-time work experience in web design (a Master’s degree may be substituted for one year of work experience)
Experience designing websites for a large organization and for multiple audiences
Detailed knowledge of programming and multimedia applications including JavaScript, HTML (preference HTML/5), CSS2/3
Detailed experience interacting with SQL databases, writing queries, and stored procedures (at least 2 years)
Graphic design background
Work in a Macintosh and a PC environment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Web and Digital

Experience designing web pages and providing leadership on front end web solutions
Knowledge of current web trends and standards including accessibility standards
Demonstrated creative vision and ability to translate creative vision into a functioning web design
Experience managing digital signage systems (preference for Four Winds)
Experience managing social media for a large organization
Experience researching, tracking and recommending new web technologies, social media trends and developing service applications
Demonstrated knowledge planning, reviewing and evaluating web, technology and video projects and maintaining project calendar outlining milestones and priorities
Experience writing original, strategically developed content for websites and editing contributed content as needed
Experience monitoring websites, social media and video production for consistency, accessibility and compliance with branding standards for content and to promote an established brand
Experience utilizing analytics to evaluate websites, social media and video products and leveraging search engine optimization to promote websites
Knowledge of developing student-focused websites, applications, mobile-friendly sites and apps and databases to meet identified needs
Working knowledge of video production tools, techniques and systems

Customer Care

Demonstrated ability advising, teaching, training, and/or presenting web topics, software, video and social media trends to non-technical personnel
Demonstrated excellent customer service to multiple levels of users and encouragement of timeliness and accuracy of web page information and resolution of problems
Experience training personnel to maintain web pages and on other web topics of interest (apps, mobile content, etc.)
 

Project Management

Two or more years experience organizing and managing multiple high-priority tasks with changing deadlines and priorities
Demonstrated experience managing and tracking projects independently

Diversity

Understanding of multicultural concepts and diversity and how they impact marketing and communications
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations

Salary

Salary is $52,000 – 60,000  commensurate with education and experience. The starting date is negotiable; August 18, 2014, or earlier is preferred.
