Artisteer - some questions

Hi

just working on my first skin for MJ using Artisteer 3.1.

just a few quick questions :

1) The content blocks designs within Artisteer , do the styles/defnitions come across to MJ as Module/panel styles ? Reason for asking all the other style comes accross to MJ  apart from my blocks design  ( ref http://www.flickr.com/photos/leeiberry/6922903365/ for artisteer example)

2) are there any major limitation of artisteer imports into MJ ?

thanks

Lee

Re: Artisteer - some questions

I can't see your image since it requires a login, but I can tell you that in Artisteer the "block" styling is used in the left and right side columns, and the "content" styling is used in the center column.

I wouldn't say there are any "major" limitations, but there are a few recommendations in the Creating Skins From Artisteer Templates document that will make things easier for you. If you find a problem with a particular template, you can report it here.

Re: Artisteer - some questions

Hi,

If you followed the instructions to create your skin, then when you put mojoPortal content instances on the page in the side columns they should be styled in the block styles. ie add an Html content to the left or right side.

The "content" you see when designing in Artisteer is just placeholder content it is not part of the design.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Artisteer - some questions

Hi Joe

thanks all working now . major problems was caused by an old verison of MP.. upgraded  ,blocks now working.

there seems to be some small problem, the skin seems to be caching ie  i change the design but the new design is not reflected in the web site (visual studio 2010 debug) until a few restarts later.

tried restarting IIS just in case, but no luck, also restared VS   no luck

is there a caching problems with skins ?

Another issues is i  take a base 3.1 skin , with the meuns under the header , copy  my artisteer 3.1 template across , the menus appear above the header !!! the Artisteer template had the menus under the header  !!!

why ??? :(

Thanks Lee

Re: Artisteer - some questions

where is this cache ?

i've just deleted one of the major images out of the images folder for my skin , but the image still appears in the header !!

so i did a complete reboot

loaded a new artisteer skin into my skin folder , and the older skin is still displaying with the deleted image !!

confussed :(

any ideas ?

PS  deleted the image from the Artisteer export folder ... Skin updated now , but the menu are still ontop of the header

sorry guys  but there does not seem any logic to this ...I would expect a system reboot to clear the cache

Re: Artisteer - some questions

Hi Lee,

Rebooting the machine would clear server side cache but to my knowledge it would not clear the browser cache, that is persisted to disk.

If your menu is not in the correct place it maens you did not choose the correct starting skin based on the criteria in the left column of the table in the documentation. You need to look at the menu properties in Artisteer, is it inside the header, below the header inside the sheet or above the header inside the sheet or outside the sheet. These differences are all reflected in the variations of the layout.master file in the incldued Artisteer 3.1 skins, so you could try replacing your layotu.master one by one from each of the included skins until you fiond the right one, but best to choose based on te criteria.

Make sure you are editing the correct location, ie /Data/Sites/[SiteID]/skins/[skinname]

Easiest way to make sure css changes are loaded is to reset the skin guid under Administration > Advanced Tools > Design Tools > Cache Tool

Reseting the skin guid appends a new gud to the url of the skin css handler thus byapssing any previous browser cache.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Artisteer - some questions

Hi Joe

Thanks all working now:)

Just to recap what i did :

1) selected an Artisteer 3.1 skin from /Data/Sites/[SiteID]/skins/ into a new skin folder. Test the new skin , results the same as the orginial. Note: Menu under header.

2) Exported my Artisteer 3.1 design to a temp folder and copied contents to my new skin folder.  The design included the menus under the header.

3) Had to modified   layout.Master to relocate the menus under the header. Not sure why the menus moved above the header.

4) under Administration > Advanced Tools > Design Tools > Cache Tool

5) added the following to my user.config <add key="CacheCssOnServer" value="false" />    <add key="CacheCssInBrowser" value="false" />

6) clear temp files from browser.   Did this every time I did a change to the skin design.

Some planned tasks going forward:

1) include Superfish Menus . Followed the instructions but ended up with a very basic (not working) hyper link memu.

2) Changing the jQuery UI Theme to match skin design.

3) include the search box wthin the header.

Thanks for your help Joe
