Hosting mojoportal

Besides Arvixe, can anyone recommend a responsible host provider for mojoportal platform, either shared or VPS.

cheers

Re: Hosting mojoportal

Server Intellect shared hosting. I have had them for years with amazing service. They call it the Public Cloud.

My experience with shared hosting at Arvixe has been nothing short of horrendous, both for Windows and Linux hosting. I haven't had such poor service since I started out hosting at GoDaddy (which, to be fair, is even more dismal). Perhaps Arvixe's less economical plans get better attention and service, I don't know.

For my non-mojoportal sites, I run a monitor of my own downtime and re-starts and the number of re-starts per day is scary. I have a keep-alive that runs every 4 minutes so the down-time is not .net spinning back up. I really should put a mod on the couple of mojoportal sites I run there to do the same...

I have had three really poorly attended-to service failures, the last of which happened today. Neither LiveChat nor the ticketing system helped. As a matter of fact, someone was just clearing their ticket queue at the end of the day, tossed off a "well, everything looks fine" boilerplate response to me. I then looked at the server health blog and discovered there had been a serious RAM failure during the day and my server was getting emergency maintenance in the evening. Why I could spend more of my time and figure out the connection but they, whose job it is to do this, could not, is incomprehensible.

My prior issues were similar.

I am a freakish fan of Server Intellect shared hosting. I won't even post my affiliate link. Just try it. You will pay more there than Arvixe, but their technicians are top-notch and I have never, ever had a serious issue with their service. I even look forward to issues at night or on the weekends because they have the forethought to put their best people on when there are less folks available to help.

Sorry, just honestly have not been happy other than having some smaller invoices with Arvixe at all.

Re: Hosting mojoportal

Depending on how many mojoPortal sites you'll have, you may choose to look into a VPS solution for better performance and reliability. I've had my VPS with Arvixe for over six months now; in that time, I've had 1 brief outage, according to my monitors - a huge improvement over my previous hosting provider. It's more expensive (though less so if you buy hosting on the annual or semi-annual rates), but the reliability is definitely worth it.

Re: Hosting mojoportal

What you get from Arvixe for the price is impressive but one of my customers has been offline for 4 days now.

They do seem to be working hard as this blog suggests http://forum.arvixe.com/smf/servernetwork-status/server-issue-aster-arvixe-com/

Unfortunately working hard and working smart are different things.  My customer is pushing me to move them to another provider.

One other provider that has been great for a different customer is DiscountASP.NET but I don't like their custom control panel - but it works well. Unfortunately they are about 3x more in price to get rolling but in 3+ years with them I have never had an issue.

WinHost has the best Control Panel Ive seen - and offers similar features to Arvixe.

Ive looked at about a dozen hosting services in the $5-$20 a month range and nothing comes close to Arvixe for what they provide.

Of course major downtimes like described above are unacceptable for most businesses.

Re: Hosting mojoportal

Joe,

Let me ping my contact there, and see if he can do anything for you. Worst case scenario, I can offer you space on my VPS to temporarily host your site until your server issue is resolved.

Re: Hosting mojoportal

Thanks for the offer!

FYI - I have a reseller account with Arvixe (separate from the affected customer) and I tried to host for them - but using the same domain name I can only get "500 - Internal server error"

Maybe as you are on VPS it would work...

Feel free to email me directly.

Re: Hosting mojoportal

Everything is back up and running on Arvixe.

My customer is starting to believe that you do get what you pay for... they are looking to move to Server Intellect as posted on this thread.

Carol - thanks again for the offer of help.
