When making files available via the shared files module on a page, how to link to them on another page of the site?

If you have questions about using mojoPortal, you can post them here.

You may want to first review our site administration documentation to see if your question is answered there.

When making files available via the shared files module on a page, how to link to them on another page of the site?

From reading the documentation you provide (which is excellent by the way), I still can't figure out how to make files that are in the file sharing module available via links on other pages.  Is this even possible?  Such that I have perhaps an article or something with a link to a file on a different  page.  For instance, I tried to manually upload something I wanted my teacher to see, and I figured that I could just use my site since my site hasn't yet gotten a lot of hits for him to get it (the file would have been temporary and I was planning to delete it right when he was through downloading it), but I could never figure out how to provide a direct link to it for him.  I ended up having to use Sky Drive instead.  The difference here was though that the file was uploaded via file manager and not secure file sharing.  Thanks for any advice you have.

The Shared Files feature is not intended for that kind of use, it is for sharing files in a secure way so thet they can be protected by roles, nothing more, it is not intended as files for use in content in other features.

To link to a file in content like in the Html feature, you can use the link toolbar item in the wysywyg editor to browse the server and link to a file and you can upload files from there too. But those files are not protected by roles, if someone knows the url to the file they can download it, whereas with the Shared Files the download url checks the users roles before allowing the download if the Sharted Files is on a page protected by roles.

You could use Shared Files to share a file with your teacher if the Shared Files feature is on a public page just give him the url to the page. If its on a page protected by roles then your teacher would need to sign into your site and would need to be in the allowed role.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Oh okay.  Thanks.  I was a little confused there for a minute, but it makes sense now!  And I didn't know that you could upload files from the link item in the editor.  That's pretty cool.
