Re: Lost with Artisteer created skin

I believe that the portion that was a bit unclear was in exactly what files were needed in getting a new skin to function properly.  I was moving the exported files from Artisteer over to my server, placing them under the skins directory, then selecting that as the style to use for mojoPortal.  This resulted in a non functional style.  After working with this a bit now, comparing file contents between skin directories and reviewing information posted here, I think one of the more important pieces of information in regard to creating a new skin style is the advice to copy an existing skin first and use that as the directory/container for any files exported from Artisteer.  The non functional style (and associated directory) that I was trying to work with previously, did not have the files needed by mojoPortal it would seem, as indicated by another piece of information included in the instructions...  "The part of the Html export from Artisteer used in mojoPortal consists only of the CSS files, javascript and images."

So, is there a list available of the base files that are required by mojoPortal, within a skins subdirectory, in order to operate properly?

Thanks again

Re: Lost with Artisteer created skin

As Joe said yesterday, he updated Creating Skins from Artisteer HTML templates to include the step you need. You must first look at the matrix on that page and identify which delivered skin matches the layout of your Artisteer design. Then you copy the contents of that skin folder into a new skin folder under your site. Finally, you export your Artisteer design as HTML, and copy the exported files over the top of that new skin folder.

Example:

  1. I create an Artisteer 3.1 layout called MyDesign.artx, with header inside sheet, menu inside sheet above header, and footer inside sheet.
  2. I look at the matrix in the article and see that I need to start with either artisteer31-blackngreen or artisteer31-verticalmenu2 as my base skin.
  3. I create the folder \Data\sites\1\skins\MyDesign, and copy the complete contents of \Data\skins\artisteer31-blackngreen to that new folder.
  4. Within Artisteer, I export MyDesign.artx as HTML, and copy all of the resulting files and folders to \Data\sites\1\skins\MyDesign, overwriting any files that have the same name.
  5. I launch my site and change the skin to MyDesign. Hopefully everything will look good. If not, some CSS adjustments may need to be made.

What is meant by "inside" and "outside sheet"?

Re: Lost with Artisteer created skin

In Artisteer, on the Header, Menu, and Footer tabs, there is a toolbar option for Position (on the Footer tab it's labeled Length and Position). When you select that, you can choose how the header/menu/footer is positioned within in your design. What you have selected in those three places is what will determine which of the delivered Artisteer layouts you should overwrite with your exported design.
