JQuery Slide show

Hello,

I am about to write a web control to go in mojo that displays all the photos in a user defined folder (eg /data/myImages). I was planning to use JQuery to get around the limitations of the Silverlight control namely that users have to download silverlight to get it to work.

Has anybody already done this or got any extra features they would like to suggest?

Thanks

Matt

Re: JQuery Slide show

Have you already looked at the delivered Folder Gallery module? If that doesn't do what you need, you could always clone it and extend from there.

Re: JQuery Slide show

Rick,

That was the very JQuery slide show I was planning to incorporate. Thank you so much!

Strange looking at your website, I felt like I had met my alter-ego. I play guitar, do software development professionally and do a bit of wood working and hedgelaying in my spare time. My family also run a timberframe building company over here in the UK.

Anyway, back to the control, have you thought about getting Joe to add it to the Mojo project, it would be a great addition.

Thanks again

Matt

Re: JQuery Slide show

Hey Matt

Thanks.

My late grandfather (Cecil Partington) was from Manchester England, maybe we're relatedsurprise

Before I released this I email Joe.  He said he really liked it and may build a wrapper for it and include it in mojoPortal someday.  He's a super busy guy and I would hate to see his ToDo list.

I will be improving it and making it easier to use over time.

Adding it to a page body as a feature really only takes a few minutes the way it is now.  Putting it in the header takes a few extra minutes.

Take Care

Rick

Re: JQuery Slide show

Hey cousin Rick!

I have been playing with your Nivo slider implementation and can't work something out. I wonder whether you are familiar with the problem?

The control works fine on my live site, but not on my local lIS one. The source is identical as far as I can tell. In fact I copied the local site to live so it must be the same.

On the local site, the cursor / buttons at the bottom of the slider, which show your current picture, don't display, and instead I get a strange pixilated set of mini-images on the left hand side of the main image. Also the main image seems to spend a lot of time in a state where it is only about 20% as big as it should be!

I guess its not the end of the world, since the live one works, just a bit annoying..

Thanks

Matt

PS I went to university with someone called Ian Partington, he came from up north somewhere.

Re: JQuery Slide show

Hey Cousin Matt

Off the top of my head the only thing I can think of is...  do you have Cache turned off in Administration cause it sounds like it does not see a css file?

Re: JQuery Slide show

Hi Rick,

Hope you are well. Just to let you know I have converted your Nivo slideshow stuff to a fully configurable control now. It lets you point the slide show at a folder so it displays all the images in that folder, it also lets you specify the image dimensions and margin size in the settings. I had to do this for a project I am working on.

I am happy to let you have the source if its of use to you.

Cheers

Matt

Re: JQuery Slide show

Hi Matt

Wow.  That is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes.  I'd love the source code.  Please.

to rick<at>hubka<dot>com

I hope my source code was a small help to you doing this.

Do you have plans to release it as a completed feature?  Let me know?  If yes, I'll remove my manual implementation.

I'm so glad you did this.  I just started a new job a week ago (very good job) and I doubt I would have got around to upgrading my source this year.  Joe told me he'd would like to complete it too and make it a standard mojoPortal Feature if he had time.

LMK your plans.

Cousin Rick

Re: JQuery Slide show

Cousin Rick,

I would be happy to share the code, can you send me an email and I will share the files via google docs.

I can't take too much credit for the control just built on your code and the Nivo originator.

Have shared the code with Joe already btw - see his note on the forum.

Cheers

Matt

Re: JQuery Slide show

Hi Matt

Email sent.

Thanks to both you and Joe for both taking this Nivo Slider feature to the next level.

AhHHHHHHHHHHH....  Life is GOOD!!!

Joe.  Please remove my Nivo Slider mention from this Websites "Custom Features" section.

Thanks

Rick
