Advice on creating a Flash picture set

I would appreciate some help on creating a banner/header/picture box that will show a picture set that fades into each other - the normal Flash animation. The pictures will be of mountains and hills so a wide frame is what will be required. It really only needs to be on the Home page.

1. Any suggestions for a tool to create the Flash animation (preferably open source or free)?

2. I need to know how to plug it into my site: www.stevensonway.org.uk.

3. I'd also appreciate some advice on whether I should replace the banner with it or have it below the menu strip. What would look best in your experience?

Many thanks in advance!

Re: Advice on creating a Flash picture set

Have you thought about using something other then Flash for this? There are several jQuery plugins that do the exact same without the overhead of Flash. I have used Mobily Slider and Nivo in the past and both work well and are easy to plug into mojoPortal.

Re: Advice on creating a Flash picture set

Hi Aaron

I just downloaded and tried the sample code that comes with both Mobily Slider and Nivo Slider Free from your links.  Nivo Slider is awsome!  Although I think Nivo is nuts charging $120.00/yr for Nivo Slider Pro. Thanks for the tip.

Hi

Have a look at the mojoportal slidePanel - works really well - I have it randomly cycling through 15 images - the really nice bit is it is all just defined in div's in your layout.master - you can mix images and text in the same panel too which is really nice. So easy to change/maintain. No need for flash. Can't show you the site yet as its still behind our firewall.

Re: Advice on creating a Flash picture set

Many thanks for your advice folks. I'll drop the Flash idea and use the slidepanel instead. One question though: how do I add it to the body of the home page rather than the header?

Re: Advice on creating a Flash picture set

Hi,

It gets even simpler if you want it displayed in regular content. Just add the photos to an HTML content instance on your homepage and then edit the settings for the instance. Select the "Enable Slideshow of Elements" option under "Slide Show Settings" and click the Save button.
