Estimated number of sites built using MojoPortal?

Hi,

I am having a discussion with a friend about WordPress vs. MojoPortal and part of the discussion is about the number of sites built using mojoPortal.

Does anyone know aprox. how many site have been built using mojoPortal?

FYI - I do NOT like WordPress at all - but I am a fan and user of mojoPortal.

Re: Estimated number of sites built using MojoPortal?

Interesting thought Phill

Release 2.3.6.7 has 6,164 downloads in 8 days to date.

Most people do not list their pages on the mojoPortal page: Sites Running on mojoPortal.  For example, me and my manager have 10 sites and none are listed there.  Also... I download mojoPortal code once for 10 site upgrades so that skews the usage of download statistics/site.

Also, some sites also remove the text "Powered by mojoPortal" footer which would skew Google statistics.

I think WordPress and DotNetNuke and others would all have the same issues.  It's just a difficult and maybe unfair to guess.

As a developer I might hide a piece of code in a C# dll that would do an HTTP Post to the main mojoPortal Website once a month and then the main site database could collect accurate deployment statistics.  But maybe a "Call Home" script like this would not be considered proper to hide in the code.

I'm just a mojo user like you Phill and this is just my 2 cents.

Hi Rick,

It was a shot in the dark as WordPress  fans do like to bandy around numbers on insatalls etc.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Re: Estimated number of sites built using MojoPortal?

I'm sure the number of sites running mojoPortal is a drop in the bucket compared to the number running Wordpress, it is certainly more established in the market. But I don't think that should be the most important factor in choosing a CMS, if it is then it is self perpetuating and the biggest will always remain the biggest.

The way I see it we are a market underdog with nowhere to go but up from here. We've managed to get where we are today spending zero on marketing and just focusing on continuous improvement of mojoPortal and our add on products.

I think mojoPortal compares favorably to any platform on ease of use and security. I think we do well because we have most of what anyone needs for a personal or business web site in the box, but I certainly don't think mojoPortal scratches every itch or meets every need for every web project and I would never make such a claim. It is good for everyone that there are a lot of choices out there.

Best,

Joe

Re: Estimated number of sites built using MojoPortal?

Hi Joe,

You make excellent statements, the only thing I would disagree with you on is there are more sites out there running on MojoPortal than you think.  And you certainly do not get the volume of questions on your boards each day as they do!  For example just on the install, it took me over 8 hours and I was still not happy with it.  I gave it the same length of time I did trying MojoPortal out - 3 days.

Anyway, I for as few issues as I have had with installing, upgrading, modifying, and generally running MojoPortal you are the winner hands down.  And I don't care how popular the other guy is.  I am still a firm fan of MojoPortal it offers so much more out of the box.

My current venture into the world of Mojo is to find someone who is a far better graphics person than I who can create a skin for the site (www.YachtLogSoftware.com).  You used to have a page on the site that had a list of links to sites offer MojoPortal skins, free or otherwise.  Of do you know of a site I can go to where there are people who design skins for sites like mine for the MojoPortal framework?

Thanks again Joe for the reply and a great product.

Re: Estimated number of sites built using MojoPortal?

Hi Joe,

There are too many Joe's here on MojoPortal... whew!

Anyway,  I had looked at your site earlier this morning but could not find anywhere to send a quick message asking about MojoPortal Skin design.

I am not sure that out in the open is the best place to discuss this please contact me directly.  I'll reply with some thoughts, in the mean time take a look at the site that needs work so you will have a some idea of the product etc.

Thanks
Phill
