Download Link Not Appearing After Purchase

OK, I surrender; I've checked all the settings, everything looks good, but after a purchase has been successfully processed via PayPal, the item is set to "Fulfillable", but the "download item" link isn't appearing - what did I miss?

Re: Download Link Not Appearing After Purchase

you need to

  1. define download terms
  2. set the product to fulfillment type download and upload a file
  3. when you add the product to the offer you choose the download terms

when an order is created a download ticket is created and the link is shown as long as the download ticket is not expired or used up

take a look at the product/offer configuration on the demo site if you need more clarification.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Download Link Not Appearing After Purchase

And that's what I meant by "everything looks good"; file is uploaded, download set to "unlimited" - if it's set to "unlimited" for the terms, and the order is set to "fulfillable", feasibly the link should still be there no matter how many times it's been visited, correct?

Re: Download Link Not Appearing After Purchase

yes, in theory that is correct but "unlimited" is just the name of the setting not the setting itself.

Also changing it after the sale won't fix it, the ticket is defined by the download terms defined at the time of the order completion.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Download Link Not Appearing After Purchase

Right - I left the "unlimited" as it installs, which is to say unlimited timeframe, unlimited number of downloads.  I'll keep an eye on it, and see if the problem repeats - thanks.

Re: Download Link Not Appearing After Purchase

If I was having troubles like that I would make a test product for $1 with a dummy download file and make sure it works before customers purchase. Since the money goes into your PayPal account the only cost is the transaction fee and that is money well spent to make sure it works as expected.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Download Link Not Appearing After Purchase

If you need to fix an existing order for a customer, probably the easiest way would be to create a new order manually using the Order Entry feature in WebStore, then after verifying it produced the download link you can cancel or delete the original order. This feature is designed for use when you have customers who pay by check or other methods. But I would still want to test and make sure the PayPal PDT and IPN is working correctly so that future orders are processed correctly.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Download Link Not Appearing After Purchase

OK, problem sorted; somehow or another, I managed to un-select the product from the offer. Re-selected product in the offer, and download link now appears.blush  (...going to get more coffee...obviously it was needed when setting up the offers!)

BTW - a small glitch that might need to be addressed; the download link shouldn't work if there's not a file associated with an item (saw this on my $1 test that didn't have a file associated with it, but was set to "download" as fulfillment type). Right now it throws an ugly "missing instance" error if the user clicks on it.
