help with skins

I was wondering what is the easiest way to visually design a skin from scratch not using artisteer or other online template I have thought on this a lot I was hoping to open an existing skin in blend or something similar but that don’t work so well I have the source  on my pc but no clue how to link my skin back to the page so I can do visual skinning I end up with the design looking like this  Error Creating Control -analyticsTopThis control cannot be displayed because its TagPrefix is not registered in this Web Form.repeted like 50 times. ... my final out put I’m hoping for is a completely redesigned menu with Silverlight for shifting for mouse over. This was supposed to be a learning process for me but now I’m just frustrated tired and confused. could anyone point me in the right direction as the documentation for mojo skinning is a bought as simple as a 1million piece puzzle not to mention confusing as hell so please oh mighty web gods impart your wisdom..

thanks

nathan

Re: help with skins

I would use a local installation in IIS. I disable CSS caching while designing so I can see my changes immediately in the browser, I edit CSS and other skin files with a text editor like TextPad or NotePad++ and I refresh the web browser to see changes.

It is not really very feasible to use designer tools because the only way the skin is correctly loaded is when you have a running site because of the way we support multiple sites and multiple skins per site the correct paths to the files can only be determined with the site running, it doesn't work the same as when using static html files.

Hope that helps,

Joe
