getting mojo portal on snowcovered

I would like to gauge the interest of the mojo portal developer community about selling modules on snowcovered. I have already contacted snowcovered and they said they will sell any CMS modules and if there is enought interest and activity they will give mojo their own section. What is everyones reaction to this? Does the community think modules should only be free?

Give your thoughts please :)

Re: getting mojo portal on snowcovered

Hi,

I am committed to keeping mojoPortal a pure open source project at least in terms of what is included directly with mojoPortal. Unlike DotNetNuke and Rainbow Portal I do not include things that are free only in dll form like FreeTextBox or free versions of Component Art controls or anything like that.

As for third party developers they are free to do what they like and I would be happy to see third party features for mojoPortal on sale at snowcovered or anywhere else. I'd be happy to link to them and provide information about them on this site as well. I value open source but its not a religion for me, I don't insist on everyone open sourcing everything they do.

It would be nice to see some of the 3rd party DNN developers port some of their existing DNN features for mojoPortal and sell them on snowcovered. I wouldn't think it would be that difficult to do converting a DNN module to a mojoPortal module.

I have considered selling some premium features separate from mojoPortal myself to help pay for development and then maybe later make them open source after making some money on them. Originally I was going to do this with the e-commerce feature but then had a customer who wanted to sponsor it as open source development. I may yet do this with some other advanced features. I like to share but one has to make a living too.

So if anyone wants to sell features that plug into mojoPortal I'm all for it.

Cheers,

Joe
