weird issue w/slideshow when moving site

Hey Joe, and all the other Mojo gurus.  I have the oddest problem, which is occurring in a site that I have copied from a different URL -- a total copy, using the same db and all other info; it was a way of shuffling users about while a nameserver change was pending.

The site is using the ramblingsoul-5contentpanes skin; in the first site, I have various slideshows operating in that top pane, and they're all working fine -- that's at http://literatelit.crypticsites.net -- but when I did a total copy of the site to http://literatelit.com, and yes I fixed the keepalive URLs in the web.config and user.config, now none of the slideshows are operating at all, and I have checked all the settings, the slideshows appear to be turned on, a class is specified, and the class is used in the body of the thing, and I checked that too, the class="rotate" is there.  I'm totally stumped about why copying this site should break it, when I made sure and fix all those keepalive urls.

Any ideas?

Thx!

Andria

Re: weird issue w/slideshow when moving site

Hi Andria,

If you're sure none of the files are missing on disk, then it could be file permissions problems where some of the files do not have read permissions and cannot be loaded. So my guess is either some files are missing or have incorrect permissions on them. You may have the folder permissions correct but if it did not inherit permissions from the folder then you may need to fix permissions on specific files.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: weird issue w/slideshow when moving site

This url for one of your broken images returns a 404

http://literatelit.com/images/stories/covers/cemeterydance.png

as does the url for the javascript file http://literatelit.com/ClientScript/jqmojo/cycle.js

so it seems likely that the file does not exist but it still could be a permissions problem.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: weird issue w/slideshow when moving site

Hmm, would broken imgs in the slideshow cause the sliding part to break?  I was aware of the broken imgs, apparently some of them are hardcoded URLs from the older (joomla) site this was adapted from, but I had no idea that broken imgs would break the slider.  The other sliders are broken too, but the imgs show up, not broken.

I guess it could be missing files; when I copied everything over, I did it all at once, instead of in stages, so I could go do something else for a while, but FileZilla handles failed xfers so breautifully, I went and re-queued all the ones that showed up as failed transfers, but maybe something got by me.   I guess what I could do is delete all that I copied in, do a fresh install, and THEN copy over it with the real files.

Thx,

Andria

Re: weird issue w/slideshow when moving site

the missing script file I mentioned is what would prevent the script from working.

Hope it helps,

Joe

I don't see why you would need a fresh install, you just have some missing files or files with incorrect permissions.

Re: weird issue w/slideshow when moving site

Ah... well I took a shortcut -- I went into the websitepanel file mgr, zipped up the entire functional site, uploaded it to literatelit.com via the file mgr, deleted everything except the zip file, and unzipped it... and now it all works.  Sorry, I missed what you said about the missing javascript file, but, I have no way of knowing if that was the only missing file -- so the zip to upload to unzip worked well to make sure I got everything.

There have been some network/data center problems with something at arvixe the last couple days, it's been really messing with both www and ftp, for the servers I'm on (doghorn for asp.net and peafowl for my linux sites... aren't you glad you have a dedicated server!)... hopefully it's fixed now.  I'm still glad to be on arvixe, they actually tell you what's going on, instead of assuming that innocent face "it ain't me, boss!" that most hosts assume whenever there's a problem -- and they saved me a bunch of money when it came time to either renew at my old linux host or get a new host, so I still think they totally rule, in the shared-server world.  Fast too, considering -- shared server!

Thx!

Andria
