Ugrade to 2.3.6.1 causes Error on Loading

Hi,

I just ran the upgrade to 2.3.6.1 on my local machine and it all works fine.  So naturally I did the same to the server.  BANG... Now I am getting the old "CustomerErrors Mode" message... !?!?!@#$

I tried changing the line in the web.config & the web.net4.config... SAME ERROR!

When I copied the new files to the server I did NOT copy either the web.config or the user.config files.

Now my site is off line completely.... what am I missing?

Re: Ugrade to 2.3.6.1 causes Error on Loading

You should not ever upload your user.config from your local machine to the server, but you should ALWAYS use the new Web.config that ships with mojoPortal, so when upgrading you must always use the new Web.config file. You should backup your old Web.config (really you should back up your whole site and database) before upgrading, then you need to restore customizations from your old Web.config file to the new one (such as the machine key setting especially)

If you still get errors after that try downloading the file /Data/currentlog.config and see if any error details are there.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Ugrade to 2.3.6.1 causes Error on Loading

Okay Joe,

Call me an impatient screw up for not backing everything up before the upgrade.

I uploaded all the files again, w/o the user.config but w/web.config.... I got the same results "customErrors mode"... I downloaded the log file you suggest currentlog.config...

The last line is...

2011-02-02 12:42:17,550 INFO mojoPortal.Web.Global - Global.asax.cs Application_End

When I run the site, it does not add any new lines to the currentlog.config file.

Doesn't seem to matter what I set the customErrors mode="on/Off/RemoteOnly" I get the same results.

aaaggghhh

Re: Ugrade to 2.3.6.1 causes Error on Loading

Hi Joe,

Well I finally got it figured out... the app is running on .NET 4.0

Parser Error Message: Unrecognized configuration section system.web.extensions.

Source Error:

Line 1057:    -->
Line 1058:  </system.webServer>
Line 1059:  <system.web.extensions>
Line 1060:    <scripting>
Line 1061:      <scriptResourceHandler enableCompression="true" enableCaching="true"/>

Source File: d:\web\vhosts\seamanmarinesoftware.com\httpdocs\web.config    Line: 1059

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.3615; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.3618

When I noticed the above line at the end of the error message I figured it out.  The server is running on 2.0!

I have made a request to the admins on the server to move the site to another server running 4.0

Thanks
Phill

Re: Ugrade to 2.3.6.1 causes Error on Loading

Hi Joe,

First let me say thank you for your patience with people like me who are impatient and not backing up there sites and DB before an upgrade.

Second  I would like to pass on one of the very best hosing services I have ever had, Nexpoint.net  I have been with them for over 10 years.  I strayed away at times looking for a better deal.  BAD mistake... Nexpoint.net has excellent service and plan prices to fit every ones budget.

I would like to pass on to you this information as an additional point of sale to host sites built with your tool.

FYI When I loaded the first mojoportal site on the server I asked if they would help with the unzip process.  They not only unzipped the package the read your docs. and made all the permissions changes and the mapping to the DB without and charge or fuss to me.

My latest issue (this one) was that that the mojoportal upgrade was included .NET 4.0 and I had originally loaded my site onto a server running 2.0.  I opened a ticket with the hosting company and here we are a few hours later and they have not only added .NET 4.0 to the server but changed my site to run on it.  No hassles or additional work on my part.

So, next time you are considering talking to other and adding additional hosting companies I highly recommend www.nexpoint.net

Thanks
Phill
