License in short

Hi!

I found mojoPortal a few month and it seems to fit my needs for a portal solution. Can anyone tell, if any of the licenses attached will be in conflict with a commercial running community - or do I have to read all stuff by myself to be sure ... ?

Thanks for replying.

Re: License in short

Hi,

Our license like most open source licenses puts no restrictions on how you use the software at all, so it can be used for any purpose commercial or otherwise. The license only governs redistribution of the software. So if you are not making derivative works of the software and re-distributing the software it is highly unlikely that you would ever be in violation of the license. That said, I am not a lawyer and not qualified to give legal advice.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: License in short

Hi !

Thanks - I had at some time found a page with links to all licenses for the modules included, but I can't find it right now. That was actually, what I meant. I'm confident with the mojoPortal license - it's all the included functions, functionality and modules that scares me a little, if I had to read them all.

Re: License in short

Sorry, would have posted that link but for some reason I interpreted your question as if you had already read that but wanted a simpler answer.

Re: License in short

Yes - thanks, I did :-)

Does your first answer also cover the attached modules and functions: "Licensing for External projects used in mojoPortal" or "just" the mojoPortal core functions ..?

Re: License in short

As far as included things under other open source licenses, basically you are trusting my judgment that only things with a license compatible with our main license are used, I am very careful about this and only use software components that are under compatible licenses but again I am not a lawyer.

The only things included in mojoPortal that have a different kind of license is the skins, some of which designs are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution license  from the designer and they often require you to keep the design by link or contact them to pay for a different license that allows you to remove it. But the skins are not really part of the software per se, we ship them with mojoPortal but they could be left out, some of them have no such restrictions and you can always make your own custom design rather than be concerned with the designer license.

So you are not required for example to keep the "powered by mojoPortal" link, but in some cases you are required to keep the "design by..." link or contact the designer to get permission to remove it.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: License in short

Perfect - thanks.

I have no problem with any of the creditorial links - even if not needed.

Case closed :-)
