News Feed

Hi,

I am migrating our site from DotNetNuke.  We have a News feed on the DotNetNuke site implemented by the NukeFeeds module.

It provides us with a facility which shows the feed results inside our site, i.e.we show the results from specific Google News, see http://www.schoolfeesadvice.org/news.aspx (below NEWS FEED title)  I have looked at Feed Manager, but this only appears to show a link to the feed.

Any advice on how we can migrate the News Feed would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Colin

Re: News Feed

Hi Colin,

Look at settings of your  feed module instance , you can see more options to configure it under the Excerpt mode settings  tab.

Hope Helps,

Asad

Re: News Feed

Hi,

It should show the feed items if you entered the feed url. I would check the mojoPortal log under Administration > System log and look for any errors loading a feed.

If you find it is failing with a specific feed, then post the feed url and I'll try to reproduce the problem here.

Best,

Joe

Re: News Feed

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your help.  I hadn't noticed Excerpt options.  I am also a bit green regarding what goes in the Web URL and what goes in the feed URL.  I am trying to configure something that feeds from Google News for a specific search term in the UK.

I don't suppose you are planning to include the newsfeed image in the except in the future?

Best regards

Colin

Re: News Feed

Under Security Settings, check the box for "Allow external images".

Re: News Feed

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for that.  Strangely images did not show at first until I combined feeds.  Also excerpts are now showing without the checkbox ticked, but perhaps something else is overriding this.

The problem I had with the feed URL parameter was that it didn't like escape sequences, e.g. "%3A" instead of ":", in the string.

Is there a way to target linked news items to a new window?

Thanks again,

Colin

Re: News Feed

Hi Colin. In a forum post back in July, Joe said that will look into providing a method to make the Feed Manager links open in a new window. See the thread here for that and a possible JavaScript workaround that he linked to.

Once again, thanks guys.  There must be a few beers racking up.
