I'm losing my mind, how best to design my domain and it's subdomains?

Hi to all mojo portal folks,

I can only say one thing, and that is that I'm one hundred percent losing my mind here.  I was just alerted by a friend of mine that due to all of my different primary focuses, it is becoming necessary for me to create a few subdomains on my main site (www.raeder24.org).  I'd like to create two for now, but I need your hand to tell me if more are necessary.  I'd like to have the forum be on a separate subdomain as well as our download page, that way no one gets confused.  Our download section is going to have a few different categories in it.  Do I need a subdomain for those too?  And one of the primary focuses of the Raeder24 network is technical support via our community, and I'd like to put one of those awesome live chat thingos on one of my pages, and my question to you is, where in the world does that belong?  If anyone can help me retrieve my mind, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks so much in advance!

Katherine

Re: I'm losing my mind, how best to design my domain and it's subdomains?

Hi Katherine,

First I question the advice of your friend why you would need sub domains, that seems like over complicating things. People sometimes do that if they want to use some different software for forums for example it is not easy to integrate so they setup a separate forums.yourdomain.com so they can install the forum software separate from their site. But if you are just using features built into mojoPortal there is no reason to do that that I can think of, it just makes things more complicated without any good reason. The beauty of having everything integrated like the features included in mojoportal is that you do not need to have such complications. It sounds like a solution in search of a problem rather than a problem in need of a solution.

Best,

Joe
