Place a sitemapindex.xml file at the root of a site in multi-site installation

I need to place the sitemapindex.xml file at the root of the given site in a multi-site installation. I do not want this for all the sites, just a few chosen ones. How do I best accomplish this? For example, I have a http://www.mysite.com as site #2. I tried placing the sitemapindex.xml in /Data/Sites/2 folder using File Manager, but when I try to retrieve it using http://www.mysite.com/sitemapindex.xml, I get a page not found error.

Thanks

Deepak
