Persistent "Page not found" error

Hello,

I had a page on my site that was working fine but for some reason started to say "page not found" when trying to access it. It still appears in the main navigation, the site map and in the admin Add/Edit pages section but I couldn't get to the actual page.

I tried deleting the page and creating another instance of it with the same name but that page is now giving me the same problem.

Any ideas what might be causing it or how I can work around it?

If you had a custom usercontrol on the page either in a custom feature or in layout.master, if it fails to load the user control it can give a page not found error.

When pages are renamed, a 301 redirect is created from the old url to the new one and it can cause a problem if you then want to re-use the old url for a new page. You should look under Administration > Advanced Tools > Url Manager, and under Administration > Advanced Tools > 301 Redirect Manager for unwanted redirects and url mappings.
