Error "Could not find the Google Maps API Key in Site Settings or Web.config"

Hi,

I trying to add a Google Map Feature into a page but I end up with the above result. This does not appear to be the same as that mentioned in the FAQ as the default "Times Square" location doesn't work either.

Cheers

Hi,

you need to get a google maps API key, then enter it in Administration > Site Settings > API Keys

Hope it helps,

Many thanks. This would be real useful added to the context help on that page.

Hi Phil,

It was just a typo in the link, I've fixed it and the information is still correct, you need to get an API key and put it in Site Settings

Hope it helps,

Re: Error "Could not find the Google Maps API Key in Site Settings or Web.config"

Joe,

Now I know why I never signed up with Google...

I have just spent the last 1/2 hour trying to create an account so I can use the map feature... no matter what DOB I put in it tells me that...

Google could not create your account
In order to have a Google Account, you must meet certain age requirements. To learn more about online child safety, visit the Federal Trade Commission's website.

I tried multiple dates ranging form 12/20/1951 to 01/01/72 all got the same response!

After another 1/2 hour on there stupid Contact Us pages searching for a way to Contact THEM there is NOT a way of contacting them without signing in!

Just and FYI if others are not able to use app your features.,

Oh, and I tried both a 32-bit & 64-bit version of IE8.

Phill

PS
Is there a way of using Other Map sources?  Like Mapquest/MS Maps/Maps lice/etc???

Re: Error "Could not find the Google Maps API Key in Site Settings or Web.config"

We have an included Bing Maps feature that does not require any api key.

Best,

Joe

Joe,

You are always one step ahead of us users!

How do I activate the Bing maps?

Thanks

Re: Error "Could not find the Google Maps API Key in Site Settings or Web.config"

No activation required for Bing maps, just put it on a page and specify an address in the location setting.

Actually to be fair, google has a newer maps API that also requires no api key but it is so different from the older API that it would be a complete re-write to make a new google map feature with the new API, so it probably isn't something I will do any time soon.

Personally I like the Bing maps better anyway.

Best,

Joe

Re: Error "Could not find the Google Maps API Key in Site Settings or Web.config"

Hi Joe,

Okay I found the Bing Map on the listbox... dahhh!!!

It shows up at the bottom of my (Blog) page in a separate section of course since I put it on the page under the Blog section.

Is it possible to have a Bing Map connected (below) each blog entry?  or forum item?

Re: Error "Could not find the Google Maps API Key in Site Settings or Web.config"

Currently only google maps is integrated into the blog. I've added a wish list item in our project tracker to make Bing maps an available alternative.

Best,

Joe
