Project Management Solution

I'm interested in the subproject for the PMI add-in.
I might be able to help.

What's the timeline? How the project structured (SVN, etc.)?

Please send me some details. Seems a great useful idea.

Re: Project Management Solution

Hi Cos,

I'm glad you're interested in mojoProject.

About the timeline, we haven't defined it yet, since we are just starting the project.

I believe that it will take about 1-2 months per feature (please keep in mind that this is a gross estimative). So a good solution with 7-8 features will take a year to be released. Of course, the more people involved in the project, the faster the results will come. Based on the feedback being provided by the project management community I personally believe this is quite possible.

The first feature to be released is the Time Tracking component. We hope to have it running on the 1st quarter of 2007. Later on we'll have a Bug Tracking System, Project Document Management, Performance Reports, Project Risk Management, Template Management , and Process Modeling amongst other features. Our strategy is to prioritize the most important project management processes during the development.

About the project structure, we are using ASP.NET 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005 with C#. We use SVN for source control. This is the same structure for both mojoPortal and mojoProject.

Personally speaking, it's been a very exciting project, since I'm learning a lot about project management and I'm using this knowledge to manage the development project. If you like project management and software development you'll learn a lot.

If you have questions or comments, feel free to send a message.

Best Regards,

Thiago Alves

Re: Project Management Solution

Great, thanks Thiago.

Is there any spec or something to start off from? Where is the repository?

Re: Project Management Solution

The svn repository is located here
https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/mojoportal/branches/mojoproject
and allows anonymous checkout, not much there yet except mojoPortal code and project stubs for mojoProject

Be sure and read the document here http://www.mojoportal.com/tortoisesvn.aspx about configuring TortoiseSVN to make sure line endings are compatible between windows and linux

If you get the solution to build and run in VS 2005, you can add the ProjectManagerModule.ascx using Admin>Feature Modules>Add New module Type
For the Feature Name I put mojoProject, for the Control Source you must put Modules/ProjectManagerModule.ascx
Now create a page and add this module to the page and you will see a starting point for development. The module is only the entry point to the project management application, it will have other pages as well.

I think Thiago is planning to work at first primarily with MySQL and later we will implement the other data layers. We have some Codesmith templates for generating data access code and a stubs for business classes. Once you do the checkout you'll see the folder named CodesmithTemplates

You can send files or patches to Thiago for now, once a comfort level is established working with you we can consider giving you commit access.

I'm thinking maybe I should setup a forum specifically for this project either on the project page or a sub page. What do you think Thiago?

Re: Project Management Solution

Cos,

I have just started working on the specs (mojoProject is in early planning phase). The plan is to build a prototype for the Time Tracker while writing the specs, so we can address the development issues and have something work quickly while refining the requirements at the same time.

I have to do some spec for the Time Tracker prototype. I'll do a draft version tomorrow (Wednesday) and send to you and Joe so we can have a starting point for guiding the development and further discussions.

Did you take a look in the project files? If you're having problems accessing it please let me know.

-----------------------
Joe,

I think it is a great idea to create a forum for mojoProject. The team is likely to grow and we need a channel for communication.

Re: Project Management Solution

Good idea to have the forum. I'll look at the specs, but I can only look at the code during the weekend.

Thanks again

Well, two weeks later and I haven't been able to finish the specs....

I'm very busy until Jan 9, so I'll publish the unfinished mojoProject spec so we can start the discussions.

Please check the mojoProject Forums for draft version.

Re: Project Management Solution

Has there been any progress with the Project Management module? I really like mojoportal - but have not been able to find  even a commercial project management module. Is this something that can be resurrected?
