Photography Competition - Combine gallery and voting?

Hello,
I'm wanting to hold a community photography competition and would like registered members to be able to post their entry's through the gallery. I would also like for registered users to be able to vote for their favorite photograph in order to determine a winner.
I've looked at the gallery functionality and can't figure out a way to combine gallery and voting. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I could add my 2 cents here : to rename it not the "image gallery" but a "photo gallery" and let the register user to vote the image|photo belong to the fixed themes and also have the blog associated to each photo inside the gallery.

Actually, it is the feature request and I am thinking about how to implement it also.
