insertion of megabbs forum software

I'm not sure if this is an admin or install issue, please move to correct place if I have erred.

I'd like to use megaBBS and instead of just setting up seperate link I am wondering if it could replace the forum software used natively in this.

I am a complete newbie so please explain very slowly why not or how :)

thank you.

Re: insertion of megabbs forum software

Integration with other applications is a task for a developer who understand both applications and can come up with an integration strategy based on their knowledge of both applications, there is no magic sauce to make unrelated software work together.

Best,

Joe

Re: insertion of megabbs forum software

Just for future ideas to improve our forums, I know our forums are pretty basic.

What features would you like to see in the mojoPortal forums?

What features does this megaBBS have that are important to you that are missing in the mojoPortal forums?

Best,

Joe

Re: insertion of megabbs forum software

pretty involved question I think and not sure I can do it justice. please don't think I'm knocking it, I really enjoy the whole concept you've got here.

first off I'd say its apples to oranges, just a different look and feel.

my current host allows php along with asp.net so I actually use phpbb (awesome setup) for forums, but prior to that I could not use php and megabbs (good software) was closest asp forum software I could find.

I have not used this forum setup much at all, but it seems to be more basic, for lack of better term, and more linear in style. phpbb/megabbs styles seem to allow better last post/heading manipulation and stuff like that. ability to click last unread post and stuff like that really enhances user experience.

I just don't know enough about it to really answer this that well, sorry.

Re: insertion of megabbs forum software

No worries. Just trying to get an idea of which are the most important features we don't have yet.

I admit freely that there are certainly better forum packages out there, indeed, there are also better blog packages, better image gallerys, better feed aggregators, better ecommerce systems, etc and there likely will always be better ones. What mojoPortal has is integration across features in terms of security roles, design etc. While it is possible to cobble together sites using separate packages you never really get the level of integration that is possible with something where all the features are built on top of the same plumbing like in mojoPortal.

mojoPortal features will continue to evolve but it is impossible to keep up with every bell and whistle in systems that are only dedicated to one task like a forums package, so I try to figure out which are the most important bells and whistles to add during each cycle of improvement for a given mojoPortal feature to reduce the gap between our features and stand alone packages.

To me StackOverflow has set the bar of what an ideal forum is and what we should strive for over time.

Best,

Joe

Re: insertion of megabbs forum software

one of the questons I had to ask myself before choosing software for the family and friends project was what was more important to me. do I go with a forum based with portal built on top of it (example ezboxx/megabbs-very good stuff) or do I go with a portal that allows userpages and treat the forums as a side entity.

I have some MOSS 2007 experience and really wanted the user portals it gave, but due to isp limitations here I can not sustain it here from the house. so I started looking based on the question in my mind and decided that the user portal advantage trumped everything.

I am very new to it, and a complete idiot with it, but so far I think mojo has done a super job bringing MOSS 2007 like experience to the masses. so using this with phpbb forums seperately is the way I've gone as of yesterday. I have a lot of control on the portal and forum sides while still allowing a, hopefully (soon), nice user experience.
I also have good privacy control which is very important too.

super piece of software, thank you for allowing me to use it :)
