Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

Any issues with Windows 7?  I just upgraded to Window 7 Home Premium and now my mojoportal does not work.  When I select the short cut to my home page, all I get is Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Any thoughts?

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

Hi,

The shortcut points to a mojoportal site on the internet or on your local machine?

Are you running mojoPortal on your local machine using IIS?

What version of Windows did you upgrade from?

I'm using Windows 7 everyday for development and it works fine for me, I also upgraded a while back from Vista and don't recall any problems.

You might check the event log on your machine for error messages. There is not much I can do to help not knowing what error is happening.

Note that by default IIS is not installed on "Home" versions of Windows 7. So you may need to install it manually and re-configure the web site.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

I am running local with IIS.  I checked IIS and everything seems to be ok (although I am a novice at this).

I upgraded yesterday from Vista Home to Windows 7 Home Premium.

As for the logs, I am not sure what I would be looking so I am not sure I could make sense of it.

My thoughts are to uninstall, SQL Express, Mojoportal, and IIS. Then reinstall everything clean - thoughs?

Also, is it possible to save off my work from the site I currently have edited as to not lose any of my changes and then re-apply them after the clean install?

Thanks,

Bryan

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

I would not uninstall anything, thats way too drastic.

You may need to check the file system permissions on the folder where your mojo site is located. Make sure Networks Service and IUsr have permissions.

Also see if this blog post helps you

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

Joe,

I check network services on my mojoport in wwwroot of inetpub and the permission indicate "Read" and "Write" in bold check mark and "special permissions" in light checkmark.

Also, IIS_IUSRS the permissions are "Read & execute", "List folder contents" and "Read" all in light checkmarks.

Does that seem correct?

I also made sure the App Pool settings was set correctly according to the link you provided.

Thanks again for you help!

Bryan

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

You mentioned a shortcut on your desktop. Have you tried just entering the url in the browser navigation bar http://localhost/ or http://localhost/mojoportal or whatever url you installed it at?

I really have nothing else t go one in advising you. I would poke around in the Event Viewer and look for clues in the logs. Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Poke around under Windows Logs, look in the Application Log, System Log and Security Log for anything related to IIS.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

Thanks Joe,

I will see if I can find anything in the logs that will give a clue.

As a side note: I tried to install cleanly on a separate laptop I have with Windows 7 and am having the same results.

Yes, I have tried to type the url directly into the browser and it just times out.

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

How did you install it?

You might also try temporarily disabling the Windows Firewall to rule out whether it is blocking web requests to IIS. Its under Control Panel > Security.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

To do the clean install I used the web platform installer from the downloads page.  Everything seemed to install correctly and I tried launching mojoportal from the webinstaller at the end with no luck.

Is there anyway to verify that IIS is indeed working (i.e. a default page)?

I did disable my firewall, but didn't have any better luck.

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

Joe,

What version of SQL are you using.  I had a techy friend tell me that he read that SQL 2008 express doesn't work well with Windows 7 and this could be my problem.  He said the upgrade advisor told him about the Windows 7 - SQL 2008 express issues.

Thoughts?

Re: Windows 7 - mojoportal no longer working.

I don't have any reason to assume this is any specific error without more information. I think if it was a sql error the symptoms would be different than what they are.

Did you poke around in the logs as I suggested?

If I could somehow access your machine I'm sure I could figure out the problem. I just don't have enough info to go on.

Best,

Joe
