subscribe for newsletters for everyone

Is it possible  to include an option for subscription of news letters for non-registered users?  I am using MSSQL database. Does it make any sense that if I try to add that feature with my local version of mojoportal? (I mean will it create any exception etc)

Re: subscribe for newsletters for website viditors.

This will be implemented in the near future in mojoPortal.

Asad, you are free to do as you wish, but I think you are wasting effort developing duplicate functionality.

Best,

Joe

Re: subscribe for newsletters for website viditors.

Hi Joe,

What is that causes I decided to do it, Is my approach to News Letters Manager as a separated module. I don't belief that this module is a core functionality because a company that haven't news letters no needs to a newsletter tab in user profile. In other hand we can develop professional News letters Manager for sale news letter or getting subscribe  fee for business company whereas some organization no need this module. Is subject is very important for me as a artist and idealist person. I hope you have time to ensure me that news letters manger must be a core module so that I stop my work and use my efforts on other modules.

Best,

Asad

Re: subscribe for newsletters for website viditors.

mojoPortal has a Newsletter in the core and it will remain a core feature and it will continue to evolve as I develop it.

Nothing stops you from making an external one if you think you can make a better one, but I do not see a need for it.

Best,

Joe

Re: subscribe for newsletters for website viditors.

Hi Asad,

I appreciate your interest, but I have my own plans and design and am not really in need of feedback about a different approach.

I will build it as I have planned to build it.

Best,

Joe

Re: subscribe for newsletters for website viditors.

Hi Asad,

Please don't misunderstand. When I say I don't see a need for you to build an external email system, I say it only to give you advice. If you want to make one anyway, it does not bother me for you to do that. But you have not yet seen what my Newsletter will have for features, once you see what I build you may regret spending a month of time on an external one or maybe you really will make a better one. but I will be surprised if you make one that is so much better that people will want to use it instead of the one in the core. Still it is your choice whether to work on an external email feature and do not think it will offend me if you do that, so its not a matter of going out of scope. I'm only telling you I don't see a need for it as I believe the improvements I will make to the core newsletter will meet the needs of most people.

Best,

Joe

Re: subscribe for newsletters for website viditors.

fyi, I just uploaded a new build on our Novell Forge download page, mojoportal-mssql-build-2009-10-29.zip

Both this site and demo.mojoportal.com are running this build, the only difference is that www.mojoportal.com uses MySql whereas demo.mojoportal.com uses MS SQL. I have only uploaded a build for MS SQL though.

Most of the main improvements for the newsletter have been implemented including a new Newsletter Sign Up feature that you can put on a page as I have done on our home page. It's also possible now to enable viewing of previously sent Newsletters as web pages. I have never yet sent a newsletter though I already have 426 subscribers. I plan to start using the Newsletter soon. If the user is not signed in then an email confirmation is sent and a link must be clicked to confirm the subscription. I'm sure there will be a lot of false submissions from web bots, I still need to implement a few things like an easy way to purge unverified records older than x days. The newsletter is only sent to verified addresses. There is also a nice new progress bar for showing the progress of mailing to a large list.

Its also possible to put <portal:Subscribe id="subscribe1" runat="server" /> in the layout.master file if you wanted the sign up on all pages. I will need to work on new documentation for the newsletter soon.

Best,

Joe

Re: subscribe for newsletters for website viditors.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for inform me. The main my purpose of implementation on newsletter manager was adding it to a page as a separated feature. I see now we have this feature. So I stop my newsletter and try to work with it and contribute to improve it by sending feedbacks and sometime by feature requests.

Best,

Asad
