Re: Support for Artisteer

Hi Joe,

Thank you for listening to artisteer users !!
I guess this is a very good news for mojoportal.

What kind of artisteer template type have you used (html or dot net) ? Do the generated files need to changed before being used in mojoportal...?...

I'm expecting your next version with interest and enthousiasm, if you need help (like beta test) don't hesitate.

Best,

Thomas.

Re: Support for Artisteer

Hi Thomas,

I'm working from html output. In fact I've only converted one design so far and I got it from here:

http://freetemplates.quickersite.com/QuickerTemplates.com%20III/7_green_k/page.html

I purchased a license of Artisteer yesterday though so I will be doing more. It is a process to transform the template into a mojoportal skin, and of course the template does not have style for all features like blog, forums, Events, etc so some supplemental styles are needed in addition to the css generated by Artisteer. I will write an article about the steps involved soon and probably will have to do more work here and there to reduce the steps needed, but I think the work I have done so far to support the first design has solved much of the work. Now I just need to try other designs and see what issues if any I encounter.

Best,

Joe

Re: Support for Artisteer

Hi Joe, the Artisteer templates are awesome! I did find one issue with the Artisteer templates. The right pane floats left if there is no left and/or center content. I tested this on demo.mojoportal.com. Unless anyone has changed it, the test pages I made are:

http://demo.mojoportal.com/artisteer-test-1.aspx

http://demo.mojoportal.com/artisteer-test-2.aspx

Thanks always for all your hard work!

Re: Support for Artisteer

Hi Jamie,

I'm sure that is probably true of other mojoPortal skins. I do not consider it a bug if people create strange layouts. Typically one should always use center and side columns just supplement center, there is no reason to use side panes without center.

I'm uploading the release now, I just created this document: http://www.mojoportal.com/creating-skins-from-artisteer-html-templates.aspx

and will be blogging the release announcement as soon as I finish uploading files.

Best,

Joe

Re: Support for Artisteer

Hey Joe, thanks for clarification about the right pane positioning. Makes sense. Your article looks good too. Simplicity itself! I'm excited to try it all out.

Also, have you by chance checked out Artisteer 2.4 beta? They're adding vertical menu styling support, so when 2.4 is released, maybe you'll be able to find a way to use that generated CSS for styling the treeview menu? That would be good for us, since our folks prefer mojoPortal's "traditional" combination of a horizontal and vertical menu over the cascading type of drop-down horizontal menu in Artisteer 2.3.

Re: Support for Artisteer

Yes, once they release the next version I will look into supporting the vertical menus for sure.

Joe

Re: Support for Artisteer

Okay, one last thing (hopefully)... I've updated my source from SVN, but in Web/Data/skins, instead of artisteer-greenlagoon, I have artisteer-7greenk, and I'm missing artisteer-swirly1. Do you need to do another source trunk commit, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Jamie

Re: Support for Artisteer

Hi Jamie,

Sorry, I'm still working on the merge to trunk, it will be there later tonight, probably in the next 4 hours. The version of support for Artisteer in trunk right now requires many more steps to make a skin, I had an epiphany last night after I made my second skin and realized I could make it much easier.

Best,

Joe
