Blogs

I have a question about the blog feature in mojoPortal. Is it a single blog for (potentially) all user to contribute or can each user have a private blog?

Re: Blogs

That is entirely up to you. You can give more than one person permission on the same blog or you can give each a separate blog. You can even give several people their own blogs and then aggregate them in the RSS Feed Aggregator.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Blogs

Thanks for the quick reply Joe.

How do you give users their "own" blog? I couldn't quite figure it out using the Admin section

Re: Blogs

Create a page and add a blog module.

There are 2 ways to give permission. You can create a role and put the user in it then give that role edit permission on the page.
Or, since you probably don't want to create a role for each user, it is also possible to give a single user edit permision at the module level.
After you add the blog to the page, click the gear near the blog title to get to module settings and start typing the user's name in the dropdown that says User That Can Edit Content it will find the correct user that matches what you type. Then save it and that user can edit the blog.

Also you can use the friendly url feature in combination so that you can have blog urls like yormojosite.com/username.aspx

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Blogs

OK. I got it now. So it's a bit more involved than in Drupal (the only other portal/cms I know already). Makes sense though, As I can create a "Blogs" page and have all the users blog pages as a child of that page, so it is nicely rendered. And the friendly url is good for users to have a link.

Thanks!

Re: Blogs

How do I add the blog feature to the new page?  My "Feature" pull-down menu doesn't list many of the modules, like the blog type.  What am I missing?  I didn't see it in the demo site either.

Re: Blogs

Hi Craig,

I just checked http://demo.mojoportal.com and the blog feature is there, its the second item in the feature list.
I just go to the page I want to add the blog to, click the pencil in the upper right corner to get to the PageLayout.aspx page, choose Blog (2nd item in Feature list), give it a name and click "Add To Organise Content Below" and the blog is added to the page.

Re: Blogs

Hi,

Its because the blog really comes from the mojoPortal.Features projects and is copied up to the web folder by post build events so it overwrites your change.

But, you should not make such changes, if you do that you are forking the code and it will be difficult for you to upgrade without losing your changes or creating conflicts. If you really must change the code then you should clone the feature first.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Blogs

Hi Joe

I have cloned the Blog to thoughts,

When i add the blog with categories it will not update on categories list on Blogmodule page with the
current date and time & Future date and time

if i added the blog without the time then it gets updates in catgory list. but all the blogs list are published with same time like 12.00 AM.

Please let me know

Thanks

Dhanraj

Re: Blogs

Hi,

If you cloned it then you are working with a custom feature not the mojoportal blog, you will have to debug it and solve it yourself. I'm not a mind reader and I cannot see your work so I have no way of knowing whether you cloned it correctly but if you are a developer you should be able to step through the code and figure out what its doing.

This is not a question about site administration, its a developer question.

Best,

Joe
