Open Search Provider Name

When I use the Open Search feature to add my website's search to IE or FF the name of the search providers shows up as mojoPortal Search. Is there some way to make this show <WEBSITE NAME> Search?

Give it a try on my website at http://i7media.net. You'll see what I mean.

Thanks,
Joe

Re: Open Search Provider Name

When I try Firefox or IE with your site it does show your site name. Its based on the meta tag that gets added to the page and that does have your site name.

<link rel="search" type="application/opensearchdescription+xml" title="i7MEDIA - Creative Web Solutions Site Search" href="http://i7media.net/SearchEngineInfo.ashx" />

If it somehow got cached in your browser as mojoPortal I'm not sure if clearing the cache will solve it or not.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Open Search Provider Name

Did you finish the process of adding the search provider to your browser? Both browsers show the search provider as "i7MEDIA - ......" before I add it to the browser but afterwards it shows as just "mojoPortal Search."

Re: Open Search Provider Name

Hmm, I did not notice that. I will fix that for the next release.  The SearchEngineInfo.ashx does indeed list the short name as mojoPortal Search but I thought it only mattered about the meta tag, I did not realize it woul use that short anem once you add it to the list.

Thanks,

Joe

Re: Open Search Provider Name

ps, Guess it was easy for me to miss because my site is named mojoPortal so I did not think it changed anything when I tested it before ;-)

Re: Open Search Provider Name

I figured that's what happened. I'll be looking forward to the next release, until then I will just change the SearchEngineInfo.ashx to use what I want it to use.

Would it be too difficult to have a setting in the web.config or Site Settings to allow you to set what you want the name of the provider to be? I know I will not want my entire site title as the name of the provider.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Open Search Provider Name

I will add a site setting that can override the default search name. Not sure you wil be able to fix it until the next release because its in code where the short name gets set.

Best,

Joe
