Verifying Google Webmaster tools

In order to verify a site in google webmaster tools you must either :

1. Upload a specically named html file to the root of the website.

2. Upload a specifically named metatag on the home page.

I am working with a child site there for cannot see how to do 1. and the is no obvious way of doing 2. either.

Anyone have a workaround?

Simon

Re: Verifying Google Webmaster tools

I'm quite keen on answering my own questions and you can tell it only took me 1hr45mins to work this one out.

If you take the .html file Google gives you and place it in the root of the parent site it works perfectly.

Re: Verifying Google Webmaster tools

Thanks Simon.  For anyone else looking, the location to place the google html/verification file is the parent directory for mojoportal (rather than parent directory of the individual website).
