Page Templates

Not sure if this is already a feature or not (if it is can you please let me know how to do it)

It would be great if I could set up a page that has a number of components/webparts already added and configured, then save this page out as a template.  Then when creating a new page, select that template as the basis for the page (so I don't have to add and configure all the components again)

Thanks

Fraser

Re: Page Templates

Sorry but this one is still on the drawing board. We do have a xml template system that is used to create the initial pages in a site when a site is first created. It is on my list to extend this to allow choosing a template for creating a page with content already on it and saving template definitions. Just have not got to it yet.

Best,

Joe

Re: Page Templates

ah so its not possible to do something where you'd be able to create a new page, select a skin, and that page would automatically have features placed in specific content panes yet?

Many Thanks

Tim

Re: Page Templates

Please ignore my reply, i read your message a bit too quickly the first time.

Great to hear its on the drawing board, think it would be a great addition to the cms, as maybe the business customers might not be so web savvy, and this would definatley help them create pages a bit quicker.

Many thanks joe, im a devoted fan of mojo as you know.

Happy new year

Re: Page Templates

You can already select a skin per page if it is enabled in site settings.  Skinning is not related to page content.

What the templates will allow is defining what features will be on the page and what panels they will be in and what their sort order is within the panel.

All the skins adapt automatically from 1 to 3 columns already based on which panels have content features in them, so you don't have to choose a special skin for a page just because you want to have features in different columns.

Best,

Joe

Re: Page Templates

Hi Joe,

Thats not quite what i meant.

I have a site, that requires 4 layouts, and yes some can be made using the left pane/center pane/right pane, and for some designs, i can produce an extra skin to accomplish what i need, thats no problem.

Though this is great for a developer who knows mojoportals flexibility, I would like to tighten up the process for my users who create pages. They wont be as experienced, and will forget what elements should be on the page, and may stray from the designs set out. Just like the fck editor, when you prevented users from selecting crazy colours, fonts and sizes, and only giving them a drop down on font styles, I want to do the same with pages.

I want them to be able to select a skin, create the page, and then edit the html fragments that already appear on the page, which will contain dummy text and images. The benefit for the users is that its quicker, they dont have to refer to other pages to determine what elements are required (i.e i need a fragment in the top frame, and on in the right and one in the alternate pane etc), and hopefully the site will stay consistent. Once the user is good with this, i can then teach them how to add new features.

Thats my goal anyhow, simplicity for the user at the beginning, and then introduce the full power of the cms bit by bit once the user gets more competent.

Apologies for the long email, i hope it goes some way to explain my rationale behind the request.

Many Thanks

Tim

Re: Page Templates

Hello to all,

I also would like to have page templates. Maybe something as simple as "copy content from another page" will fit the basic needs and will be simple to implement.

Thanks,

Carlos
