Is Mono mature enough for webapps?

Hi there!

I'm planning to write some intranet web application. For some reasons - mainly financial - I would like it to work under Linux and Mono - on dedicated server. Since now I only developed apps (in .NET) only on Windows platforms.

My question is - is Mono mature platform to do this? Is it stable enough and fast enough to host commercial application using Linux, Apache and mod_mono?

Re: Is Mono mature enough for webapps?

Hi,

I'm a big fan of Mono myself, it does work but I'm not ready to bet any mission critical ASP.NET apps on it as a platform yet. I'm optimistic about the up coming 2.0 release of Mono, and hope in the future to be able to recommend it without hesitation. If your app is not mission critical it might be a reasonable choice, I'm just saying I would not put my job in jeopardy by betting the farm on it.

Best,

Joe

Re: Is Mono mature enough for webapps?

I was hoping you would anwser. It's a pretty important project so I will have to stick with Windows hosting.

I knew that WinForms are not there yet in Mono but also hoping that webapps support are there for some time.

Oh - I should say this in my first post - I'm not going to use WebForms - I was planning to use MonoRail framework.
