Login with User Name

Login with User Name

It's possible to have login with user name? (For some users the email is very too long)

I have thought about using a username to login before. I think there are some good reasons for doing that and will probably do that at some point for better security.

I've created an intranet site. Did not change anything to the logon stuff, but was able to create a user with e-mail adres that was  equal to the first name of the user. I think the format of the e-mail addres is not checked. It seems to me that you can work this way and only change the logon screen (i.e. replace the text used in the prompt in 'User-id').

I know that this post is from 2005 ; however, I am new and have been reading the docs and searching Google for hours trying to find out if we can use user names instead of emails...so can we? If so how?

Also, we are going to use AD but our AD users are not required to have emails associated with there accounts, in fact most do not.  As such when we start using AD how will mojoPortal react to this.  I would just try but the IT manager in charge of AD wants to know the answer before he gives the OK.

With LDAP or Active Directory, sign in uses a user name, never an email address. The option to use email will be disabled once you configure it for AD.

It will create an email address for the user with username@domain but if it doesn't actually exist as an email address its no big problem, but we do need some unique value for email address for all users even when using username for sign in.

Yes it does, also, just in case I don't get the go ahead to us the AD/LDAP I still cant find the option to use the user ID for logging in instead of emails.  you make reference to it several places.  I would make this a new post in a different forum however, if it is not in MojoPortals I would love it if you added it.

There is a checbox in Site Settings Security tab for "Use Email for Login", uncheck it to use username.
