Is mojoPortal (still) good choice?

Hi,

Last week I tried the mojoportal demo and I was surprised that from the beginning the functionality and user interface seem to match my idea about 'a nice and useful C# build cms'
Simple and easy to use. Not because I want that (as web developer) but because that is what customers need.

I have worked with Umbraco few times and although it is good/great application, it is to big and to much for the relatively small websites I am developing for customers.
Same with WordPress. Themes are to heavy (slow performance) or to complex (in the end I am doing content updates instead of the customer...where did I go wrong?!)

It is hard for me to judge if mojoPortal is a good choice to work with.
How popular is it?
Honest opinion: is it good choice for someone like me, a self taught webdeveloper/freelancer who does not want to spend to much time at updating, learning new things etc.
Is this cms future proof (for at least 3-5 years) ?

Thanks and regards,
Ronald

Re: Is mojoPortal (still) good choice?

Hi Ronald,

My name is Joe Davis. My company, i7MEDIA, owns and develops the mojoPortal CMS. We purchased it in 2017 from the original developer.

We are actively developing it and  we've made three releases since we purchased it but, admittedly, we haven't made a public release in just over a year.

We are working on plans to create a successor to mojoPortal based on .NET Core MVC (soon to be .NET 5). The primary goals of this successor will be:

  1. Ability to upgrade from mojoPortal. We want people to be able to upgrade their existing mojoPortal sites to this new mojoPortal. Skins will need to be recreated as the presentation layer of MVC is completely different from WebForms (what mojoPortal is currently written in).
  2. Ready-to-Run packages. One of the things that drives me crazy about so many other CMS platforms is that one must download this thing and that thing and run commands and "gulp" things. It's well and good for some folks but many others just want to put a CMS package (i.e. zip file) on their web hosting, extract it, point their browser to their URL and start building their website. mojoPortal does this now and will always do this.

So, to answer your questions more directly, mojoPortal is a great choice for someone like you and will always be so.

Thanks,
Joe

Re: Is mojoPortal (still) good choice?

Hello,

I have built over 600+ websites using Mojo Portal and over many years I have found this CMS outstanding - More so, I have found the team at Mojoportal outstanding when help and assistance was required.

My staff only needed ‘a little training’ (even with no programming skills) and within moments they are building / editing / websites / uploading media / (mojo has image uploaders and video uploader-player) creating pages / creating content - all live online - live online.  The skins are mobile friendly and (even after all this time) I am still discovering new features that we can use in the website.

There are many extra features in administration and there are some great “add ons”  available - to name just one “The Form wizard” (this is great for requesting jobs/tasks/quotes) where you add “fields” without any limits.

I am sure that, by now, you will understand that I am a supporter of Mojoportal CMS.   Looking forward to the Core Version.

Hope that helps.

Ray

Re: Is mojoPortal (still) good choice?

Hi Joe,

Thank you for your reply.

Sorry for my late response but the e-mail was delivered in a spam folder, so ...I did not know you replied.
I do not understand your 'package' explanation..do you mean you can 'install' MojoPortal by placing the files on the hosting server? (like Wordpress..just copy and paste the files)

Hi Ray,

Thank you for your reply and clear information.
600+ sites..that is a lot!
MojoPortal must be very easy to use i guess.. :)

- would you like to send me some links of your sites including price range indication?

- is it possible to use MojoPortal at a hosting provider who supports asp.net? Or do you need own VPS or MojoPortal specialized hosting provider?

I am looking for an easy way to create small/medium websites, not that the sites need to be set up quickly, what I want is an easy way to work.

Re: Is mojoPortal (still) good choice?

I love Mojo and also use it for dozens and dozens of sites. It's easy to work with, creating skins is very simple and there are tons of options under the hood if you need to customize your installation. You can host multiple sites in one install and it's all pretty compact. Creating your own modules is pretty easy and if you play with SuperFlexi you can create tons of great little modules with little programming experience. I use SuperFlexi for building in jQuery widgets and user friendly layouts that can be edited by clients without getting into source code.

I think Mojo is a gem compared to what else is out there it blows my mind that it's not the top CMS. People flock to WordPress because of heard mentality but it's a nightmare to manage and very bloated.

Hello,

I agree Mojoportal is great.  Is there any chance that you could share your extra flexi solutions?

Many thanks.

Re: Is mojoPortal (still) good choice?

Hi,

You are making me very curious about mojoPortal.
Hope I can find some time again to make it work on my computer this week.

I can not find any dutch developer working with mojoPortal so I guess my best way to get to know this cms is by watching youtube videos :)

@microquiz
@Eric
Can you please share some links of websites you have made with mojoPortal?

Thank you.

Re: Is mojoPortal (still) good choice?

Hello,

I have done this one today:  http://www.linemarkuk.co.uk/

Has Gallery page and image uploader.

Has Quote Form Page (Form Wizzard) installed.

Flexi Solutions - ie the Header Banner, icon blocks, Horizonal Menu Tabs ++.

Using the Contact Form (Ready to go).

Easy to add pages, sections, gallery, contacts and FEEDBACK / CLIENT COMMENTS forms.

Individual Login, login control, member login, password access - and so much more!

Has back end Administration, with many features that the client can set/change.

It uses the Scout Skin (Green Version) but others are installed also.

Hope that helps.

Ray

Re: Is mojoPortal (still) good choice?

Hello,

Just one point I did not answer

" is it possible to use MojoPortal at a hosting provider who supports asp.net? Or do you need own VPS or MojoPortal specialized hosting provider?"

I am a hosting company based in the UK and would be happy to help/offer our services.   https://micro-quiz.com   or just email me at support@hostpark.co.uk
