Easiest Mojoportal question ever

How do you get started in mojoportal?

I downloaded the software and then connected to the demo, and was under the impression that by saving it with a different username and password, what I would be doing is taking the demo site and converting it to my own by adding and deleting things, applying different skins, and so on.

I currently work with a mojoportal site, which I love, but haven't ever built one.  If I have to start from scratch and actually program the website, I will be in trouble as I have no skills in that area.  If it is as simple as what I have stated above, I should be fine.

When I try to download the demo site again now, I get the following message which makes me think that I have been locked out.

403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

This might have happened because I thought I was changing 'my' page and not the demo.

If someone can point me in the right direction, I would be very thankful.

Stuart

Re: Easiest Mojoportal question ever

Sorry but I think you need someone technical to help you setup a website.

Your premise is way off track, to run your own website using mojoPortal you need to install the mojoportal software at appropriate web hosting and it has to be configured to connect to your own database at the web host.

Our demo site is just so people can try it and see what it is like before going to the trouble of setting it up at web hosting. It says right on our demo site home page not to change the admin user password because then no-one else will be able to try the demo site until we reset it. Doing that is likely to get your ip address blocked from the demo site.

If you want someone to handle the technical aspects and provide hosting I recommend i7MEDIA

Re: Easiest Mojoportal question ever

Hi Joe,

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

The demo that you have on the home page seems to indicate that you should be going in and changing the password and so that is what I did.  I thought that you couldn't make changes to the home page when you were logged in as admin@admin.com but once you changed the login and password, you were good to go.

mojoPortal Quick Start Tutorial - This is the link that I used.

I do have a hosting company that I can use to host the site once it is built, but I think that you are correct and I will have to find someone to help me get to a point where I am dealing with content and design rather than setup and programming.

Your software is fantastic by the way.  I am sure that you have heard that before, but from someone who is editing and running a website, my job couldn't be easier.

All the best,

Stuart

Re: Easiest Mojoportal question ever

The demo video shows you what to do on your own site. When you install it yourself you will need to change the user and password but not on our demo site, sorry if the video makes that confusing, I did not realize that, the main goal of the video is to show the editing features.

Re: Easiest Mojoportal question ever

Hi Joe,

I suspect that most of the people using your site would know.  However, if this exchange was helpful in clearing that up for you, then I will feel like I have done my part.

I am going to talk to an associate of mine, and then I will hopefully be back - perhaps a little smarter, and just as keen.

Is there a way to unblock my IP address or should I login with different credentials when it is time?

Stuart

sure, if you google "my ip address" google will tell you what it is, if you tell me then I'll know which one to unblock

Re: Easiest Mojoportal question ever

I have my IP address.  Is it safe to post here, or should I look to send it to you in some other way?

your ip address is assigned by your isp and it changes from time to time, it doesn't personally identify you but if you prefer to email it you can joe dot audette at g mail dotcom
