How to install Blog & Posts

Hi,

I have a client running 2.3.8.1 MSSQL of MojoPortal. I want to install a blog and be able to start posting items to it. Can you point me in the right direction? I have searched the forum and the Google thing (LOL) and I came up with more questions.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for the CMS, it works great!

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

Hi,

If the site is running an official release of mojoPortal as opposed to a fork or modified version then the blog feature should be available by clicking "Edit This Page" and add a Blog feature to the page from the dropdown list.

If you don't see Blog in the list of available features then it could be a multi site installation. In a multi site installation you must add the feature to the child site from the master site as shown in the documentation about multi site installations.

If it is not a multi site installation or if the Blog is not listed even in the master site then it could be that the site is running a custom build produced by a developer who intentionally left out some features.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

Thank you in advance...I'm getting this...looks like the original blog page is deleted? I also get a access denied...

This feature was not designed for publishing on multiple pages. You should not edit this feature from Content Manager, you should only edit this feature from the page it is published on.

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

You can put a blog instance on any CMS page. However you cannot put the same instance on more than one page and it is a bad idea to move it from one page to another after making posts in the blog. You can have as many separate blog instances on different pages as you like. You should not try to add posts or edit a blog from Content Manager, instead use the edit links on the page where the instance has been added.

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

Ok how would I get it back to default blog area? i tried looking for the blogview page but it's not in the add/edit pages...I tried to create one with the same page name but that then gives me this error that I showed you above.

Any ideas how to "reset the blog area?

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

Ok disregard the other post. I figured it out. Is there a way to have the same right bar show on all blog pages? If so how do I get that to work?

thanks!

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

I'm not sure about your version which is pretty old. If you click "Settings" next to the blog title you may find settings for showing page left or right content which allows showing other cms page content in the side columns of the supporting blog detail pages. There are also various settings for the blog side column which is internal to the blog as opposed to other content in the left column of a cms page. That is the page has columns in which feature instances can be placed and the blog is usually placed in the center. But within the blog there is also column layout so the blog nav links and categories etc can be shown in a column within the blog.

You can also try the blog on our demo site to see what is different in the latest version vs your older version and you may want to consider upgrading to the latest version.

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

On the blog listing page...is it possible to move the date of the blog post right below the title?

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

See Blog Display Settings, specifically the setting PostListUseBottomDate, if you set that to false then it puts the date at the top below the title. For the detail view there is also BlogViewUseBottomDate.

So the answer is yes, it can be done from the theme.skin file of the skin.

Though again, I'm not sure all of the display settings are available in your older version so if some settings don't work you would need to upgrade.

Re: How to install Blog & Posts

Ah ok...I was looking for that but guess my version is too old :)

What setting shows the title of the blog post at the top of each post page? is that within the same edit settings page? I can't seem to find that either.
