configuring a new site

I just managed to get a new instance of mojoPortal running on a hosting service.
I now need to edit the site, add pages, images and so on but I don't want the site to be visible whilst I am doing this.

My first step was to add an "AppOffline.htm" page which takes the site offline.

Now I need to edit the site.
1: Is there a way to do this "under the covers" in a way that visitors can only see the AppOffline page whilst I'm editing?
(if there is, how does it work?)

2: If I can't edit the site online then are there any issues related to downloading the site and DB and running it as a file application using windows authentication on my local PC?

Thanks

Ken

Re: configuring a new site

put the app back online, go into Administration > Site Settings

under Security > Main

the first checkbox is "Site is Closed?"

if you check that then the site pages and content will only be accessible to you while logged in as admin. Anyone else will see only the site is closed message. There is a link next to the checkbox, click that if you want to edit the site is closed message.

Re: configuring a new site

Joe,

That is wonderful news.  You think of everything!

This feature will save me a lot of time which I greatly appreciate.

Thanks

Re: configuring a new site

Well, I tried that. (Administration > Site Settings then under Security > Main , tick the first checkbox "Site is Closed?")

Then I look at the site from a different browser (not signed in)
But I can still see the "original" page. The "site is closed message" does not appear.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: configuring a new site

I have been at a dead stop for two days now because the

Administration > Site Settings >  Security > Main > first checkbox is "Site is Closed?" function does not work.

Any clues?

Thanks

Re: configuring a new site

Well, I have a red face. It was my own fault all along.

Whilst I had correctly changed the "site is closed" settings , It seems that I had not pressed the "Save" button.

Sorry for the earlier messages. I'm now back in "get on with it" mode.

Thanks

Ken
