Unable to administer website

I have uploaded an SQLCE database and on my local machine I can sign in and adminster the website. The user id exists in the database as administrator, but when I sign in on the hosted website I get the same page showing the sign in prompt. There is not message in the log and no message on the screen. I have disabled the admin@admin.com user.

Regards

Re: Unable to administer website

It sounds like login is succeeding but something is blocking the site from setting the authentication cookie.

Does the problem happen when you try from different machines and different web browsers ie, firefox, chrome or does it only happen in IE?

Can you post a link to see the site?

Things that can prevent setting a cookie:

  • Web browser privacy settings or security software on the client machine can block cookies from being set
  • Hosting a page from one domain inside an html frame that is hosted from another domain prevents setting a cookie for the inner page ie godaddy domain forwarding/masking does this and will prevent login
  • Missing system updates on the server can result in this problem in some cases for  IE 10 ideally use .NET 4.5 with all updates

Re: Unable to administer website

Thank you for your time.

I am using Firefox. I have moved the website to a new ISP, but I didn't get a backup of the old database before it was removed. I only had an export of the data, which I thought had been updating my local database properly. A lack of understanding on my part.

Just in the past hour, the IP address has been changed from the old ISP to the new one. It looks like this could have been the second reason for the cookie not being set.

I have tried on another PC and the same problem arises. I had no problems with the previous ISP. I am checking the Data folder.

Regards

Barbara
