I'm installing VS 2008 Express right now...    I administrate Linux servers for a living, but they are all servers, no gui's.   I am more at home in VS than MonoDevelop.   At work I can't keep switching back and forth either....   I've got my notebook dual booting with Suse 10.3 for compilations and sure would like my second hard disk back.

Thanks for the input.   I'll start over and re-check everything.

I don't think Express will work. VS 2005 Pro SP1 or VS 2008 Pro is what is needed, else MonoDevelop on linux.

I just created a few more notes about building on windows for linux here:

I just added all the #if MONO and #if !MONO stuff today so the VS solution can compile without the webparts.

I needed it test some of my custom controls for work anyways.    I'll be using the full version of 2005...
