page layout and menu-linking question

Hi all,

I have a couple of questions regarding a couple of things.  Firstly, I'm wondering how the FAQ section of this site is implemented in the event I wanted to format something like that on my own site?  I see that as far as I can tell, those questions are not links, so what are they?  Enlightenment would be much appreciated.  and then my next question is in regards to a post from about a year and a half ago, where you guys were discussing bolt-on applications, or partial integration to mojo Portal.  Somebody, Joe, I think that was you. said something about linking to non-Mojo Portal pages/sites from the menu and then making them visible to admins only, for instance.  I am in, or will be shortly, that situation, where a few of the other control panels for some of the other products I use are web based, but they are not, obviously, CMS plugins.  What is the best way to create a page that links directly to said application without any interim links needing to be clicked?  So for instance, a page visible to admins only would be called stats, for example, and link to the SmarterStats control panel directly.  In other words, when the page was clicked, instead of seeing the Mojo Portal interface, one would instead see the interface of the other application.  So my problem is not integration (these applications are not open source, so that's not possible as far as I know), but having other apps visible from my site.  Thanks for any feedback or guidance.

Re: page layout and menu-linking question

When I referred to "bolt on features" I referred to features built on top of mojoPortal but that are not CMS plugin features.

There is nothing in mojoPortal that can secure some external application. You can link to some non mojoPortal page and you could set the menu page that links to it to admins only but that just hides the menu link from non admins it does not secure the external app.

"bolt on features" that are built on top of mojoPortal can leverage the internal role sytsem to enforce real security from code but some random external app or code cannot.

Re: page layout and menu-linking question

Okay thanks.  These particular apps would have their own set of security features anyway, so security wasn't my concern in that regard.  So, in order to link to a non Mojo portal page, that would be when setting the URL, right?  In other words, create the page, and set the URL to the other application instead of to a Mojo Portal-based URL?

Re: page layout and menu-linking question

I don't think your question about FAQ was answered by Joe. The FAQ layout template can be selected in Content Templates in the editor. It implements a dl/dt/dd hierarchy of tags to contain the questions/answers, and then you just need to make sure there is styling for the "faqs" class in your skin. The delivered skins will have this styling in place so you can borrow from that if necessary.

Hope that helps,

Jamie

Re: page layout and menu-linking question

That's so cool.  I'm not very good at HTML quite yet, but I'm getting there.  Because the custom template video seems cool.  Now I just need to find the previous one to the video you linked me to so that I can get the full picture.
