Roles and RIghts -

I really like the way that MoJo's group and roles system works but I have a simple requirement that I cannot figure out how to do

I need a role that has only rights to edit content in existing HTMLContent modules - they should not have any access to creating modules or editing any module settings.

Is there an easy way to do this?

Regards

John

Re: Roles and RIghts -

Hi John,

You can create a role named say "limited editors" or whatever you want to name it.

Then in Site Settings you can add that role to "Roles NOT Allowed to edit feature instance settings" from Site Settings > Security >Permissions

Then you can go into the feature settings for any existing content instances and add the role as an allowed edit role on the instance (not on the page). Users in roles with page level edit permission can add items to a page but users with only permissions on the feature instance cannot.

Unfortunately there is not a way to automatically grant this edit permission on feature instances, it would require a more privileged user to create the instance and configure the edit roles. There is nothing to do it automatically for already existing instances.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Ah thanks Joe - just what I needed - I think I can add the role to existing content instances via SQL - I'm used to admin via MSSQL queries!

Re: Roles and RIghts -

Hello,

I was wondering how could users view/browse only files that they have uploaded not others files as well. And they could be able to give permission to a specific role to see their uploaded files.

Thanks,

Marya

Re: Roles and RIghts -

In order to secure uploaded files and grant view permissions at the role level, you'll need to use the Shared Files feature.

Re: Roles and RIghts -

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for your post. However, I am using shared files module, but the thing is that I want to restrict the view and browse functionality for users. Now if someone uploads a file all other users who have access to the shared file module, will see that file.

Regards,

Maryam

Re: Roles and RIghts -

Well, security is granted at either the page or module level, so to do what you're seeking, each user would need to have their own separate instance of Shared Files to upload into, which could then be secured to that user and optionally other users/roles.

How many users do you need to accommodate? If it's a very large number, or they are unknown/untrusted users, you may want to have a look at the About mojoPortal page, specifically at the bottom--uses that mojoPortal is not designed to support.

I hope that helps,
Jamie

Re: Roles and RIghts -

I want to have to main roles. Admin and simple user. The simple user could register and share file with admin.

Is it possible? The number of users is unknown.

Thanks,

Maryam
