Event Calendar Pro custom fields on booking form

We would like to be able to ask some custom questions to users booking onto events, such as whether they are vegetarian, or which break-out session they would be interested in. This will vary between events.

Is there any way of doing this? Ideally I'd like to be able to hook the survey module into the event configuration. But even a text area with a customizable label would be better than nothing.

If this is not immediately possible, any ideas for close workarounds?  (and could I add this as a feature request?).

best wishes

Crispin

Re: Event Calendar Pro custom fields on booking form

This kind of thing has been requested several times before. I've got an item in my project tracker for it and am pondering ideas for future enhancements for this kind of thing.

I don't have any great ideas for a current solution other than you could put a link in the event description to a contact form or a page with Form Wizard and add instructions for people to submit the form after they register to provide the additional information.

Best,

Joe

Re: Event Calendar Pro custom fields on booking form

OK thanks Joe - this would be hugely appreciated when you can get onto it. For us a decent solution (making best use of existing tools) would be to allow each event to be configured to use a named survey (created in the Survey module) during registration. If configured, this would appear below the "Customer Information" section on the registration form. Then the results need to be visible with the bookings (see below). This gives complete flexibility to ask the full range of questions my colleagues insist are essential!

There is actually another area that needs to be improved to make this module live up to its promise (and price!). It is very difficult to see how many places have been registered on any event. I keep thinking I must be missing something...(am I)? There should be another tab on the Event Details (for admins) showing a list of existing orders (like the Order History, but filtered for this Event, and showing the order status). And the Event Settings screen should show the number of registrations so far (or places remaining), as well as the "Total Seats/Registrations".

And the orders per Event and overall should ideally be downloadable as CSV, as the Survey results are.

The existing approach though Sales Management is not really good enough for managing Events, where you need to see how registration is going and how many places are left (for example when someone calls to ask!).

(and finally a tiny typo... "BCC Oder [sic] Confirmation Email Address")

These changes will make a really good module !!

thanks

Crispin

PS I've just had a thought about how to collect the extra preferences data... can I add a link and some text into the email that gets sent to the customer?  Is there a template for the email somewhere?

...later... OK I found this post about how to use custom email template - will try that.

Re: Event Calendar Pro custom fields on booking form

Hi Crispin,

Thanks for the heads up on that typo, just fixed it in my copy.

There is currently a place to see the orders for a specific event and it currently supports export to csv. A user with edit permission should see it on the event detail page right next to the "Register for This Event" link, there is a "View Orders" link.

Best,

Joe

Re: Event Calendar Pro custom fields on booking form

Yup, thought I must be missing something! That's great thanks (regarding seeing orders). I'd still like to see # places remaining on the event editing interface + the orders, but this is a would-be-nice-in-future request.

Survey integration more important.

thanks as usual

Crispin

Re: Event Calendar Pro custom fields on booking form

Hi Crispin,

I've added a feature request in the project tracker for showing the tickets sold vs available and a link to view orders on the event edit page.

I want to reign in your expectations a little about the idea of custom user input for event registration. In the not too distant future I think you can reasonably expect to see a free form text area and a custom instructions for what the user should enter there. Longer term if I can figure out a good way to do it I am pondering some integration with Form Wizard Pro not with the free survey feature included in mojoPortal, and if I'm able to come up with a good solution it will involve detecting if Form Wizard Pro is installed and it would only work if Form Wizard Pro was installed. Its a fairly tall order so I'm not making any promises about it for now other than to say I'm pondering how to do it and I do see the value it would add if I can pull it off.

Best,

Joe

Re: Event Calendar Pro custom fields on booking form

Text area + custom instructions per event would be an excellent start.

We have developed a workaround with custom email response + surveys, but it's not ideal because the email is the same for all events. But this process also made me appreciate some more complications with the survey idea, which is that you need a response per delegate (while one booking could cover multiple delegates).

cheers

Crispin
