RSS question

Is there any documentation on how to use the RSS feature?  I assume that I am supposed to provide the URL of the rss.xml file to the control.  But, how do I get the site page to generate the XML?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Re: RSS question

I don't really understand your question, I don't know anything about an rss.xml file there is no such thing in mojoPortal

There are only 3 places in mojoPortal where RSS is exposed as an outgoing feed.

The RSS Module can consume feeds from external sites or from internal features that expose RSS.

The blog module exposes RSS and provides its link, if you mouse over it you can copy the url and consume that in the RSS Feed Module.

The Forums module can also expose content as RSS if you enable it in the Module settings by clicking the gear next to the title of the Forums module. It will then expose RSS links that can be consumed externally or internally and you can get the url by mousing over the link or right clicking it.

The RSS Feed Module can consume 1 or more feeds and it can expose an outgoing feed that aggregates the ones that it consumes.

Thats all there is at the moment there is no general feature by which a page can expose RSS. I do plan to enable RSS outgoing feeds on more features in the future.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: RSS question

Joe,

That's great.  That's exactly the answer that I was looking for.  I was mainly trying to figure out how to expose RSS from the forum page.

Thanks for your help,

Mike

Re: RSS question

Joe,

Is there anything else I need to do to enable RSS on my forums page?  I clicked the option to enable it.  Now, when I visit the forum page, I see the RSS link next to each forum.  When I click on the RSS link on the first forum, I see the page that begins with "This web page is actually a data file that is meant to be read by RSS reader programs".  But, when I click on any of the other RSS links, I get a "The page cannot be found" error.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: RSS question

Hi Mike,

The RSSForumFeed.aspx page does have a bug in it in that an error occurs when there are no posts in the forum. I have fixed that here and it will be fixed in the next release.

The way you can fix it now is to make at least one post in each of your forums.

The page not found error is really true, you are missing the Error.htm page which should be in the root of your site. This is the friendly error page that users are redirected to when a server error happens. So the feed page is having a server error and the site tries to redirect to Error.htm but since it is missing a secondary 404 page not found error is raised in IIS.

Error.htm is included in mojoPortal so not sure why its missing on your site.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: RSS question

Is there a way to RSS to expose HTML Content? Is there such a feature in mojo?
