Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Hello,

I previously created a custom datagrid on a custom-page i created. I created this in vb.net and it worked correctly. Now i converted it to C#, i did this because i wan't to use the captcha-control for my guestbook.

The strange thing now is that when i add the code for the gridview the complete web-page shows up but nothing is being shown on the page (no textbox, no labels, no nothing).

When i delete the gridview the items do show up!

So what goes wrong when adding the code for the gridview?

This is my code:

<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="Guestbookandsign.ascx.cs" Inherits="mojoPortal.Features.UI.GuestbookandsignModule" %>

<portal:mojoPanel ID="mp1" runat="server" ArtisteerCssClass="art-Post" RenderArtisteerBlockContentDivs="true">
<mp:CornerRounderTop id="ctop1" runat="server" />
<asp:Panel ID="pnlWrapper" runat="server" cssclass="art-Post-inner panelwrapper Guestbookandsign">
<portal:ModuleTitleControl EditText="Edit" EditUrl="~/Guestbookandsign/GuestbookandsignEdit.aspx" runat="server" id="TitleControl" />
<portal:mojoPanel ID="MojoPanel1" runat="server" ArtisteerCssClass="art-PostContent">
<asp:Panel ID="pnlGuestbookandsign" runat="server" CssClass="modulecontent">

<div class="settingrow">

<h2>Hallo dit is een test !!</h2>

<asp:TextBox ID="textbox1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("message") %>'></asp:TextBox>

        <asp:ButtonColumn HeaderText="test" Text="test1"></asp:ButtonColumn>
        </Columns>
</asp:DataGrid>

<mp:CaptchaControl id="captcha" runat="server" />

</div>

</asp:Panel>
</portal:mojoPanel>
<div class="cleared"></div>
</asp:Panel>
<mp:CornerRounderBottom id="cbottom1" runat="server" />
</portal:mojoPanel>

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
        {

            LoadSettings();
            PopulateLabels();
            PopulateControls();
            bindGridhans();

}

        void bindGridhans()
        {
            string strSQL = "SELECT id, name, message, TheDate FROM messages ORDER BY TheDate DESC;";
            SqlConnection objConnection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["MSSQLConnectionString"]);
            SqlDataAdapter objAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, objConnection);
            DataSet objDataSet = new DataSet();
            objAdapter.Fill(objDataSet, "messages");
            DataView objDataView = new DataView(objDataSet.Tables["Messages"]);
            MyDataGrid.DataSource = objDataView;
            MyDataGrid.DataBind();

            textbox1.Text = (string)objDataView[0]["message"];
        }

        void MyDataGrid_Page(object sender, DataGridPageChangedEventArgs e)
        {
            MyDataGrid.CurrentPageIndex = e.NewPageIndex;
            bindGridhans();
        }

Please help me...

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

If there is an error in your code it will fail to load the control on the page, but it will log the error in the log under Administration > System Log.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Hello Joe,

Indeed! I forgot the system-log !!

I found this in my system-log:

2011-06-02 19:58:46,168 ERROR mojoPortal.Web.UI.CmsPage - failed to load control Guestbook/Guestbookandsign.ascx
System.Web.HttpCompileException (0x80004005): l:\Documenten\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\MojoPortal-source\Web\Guestbook\Guestbookandsign.ascx(17): error CS1061: 'ASP.guestbook_guestbookandsign_ascx' does not contain a definition for 'MyDataGrid_Page' and no extension method 'MyDataGrid_Page' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.guestbook_guestbookandsign_ascx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

But i don't understand the error.

I have a definition for "MyDataGrid_Page" in my code:

void MyDataGrid_Page(object sender, DataGridPageChangedEventArgs e)
         {
             MyDataGrid.CurrentPageIndex = e.NewPageIndex;
             bindGridhans();
         }

What does the error mean? Thanx in advanced.

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Did you wire up the event in OnInit?

With AutoEventWireup="false" you have to wire up events yourself from code.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Hello Joe,

I now added a codeline in the OnInit to wireup the DataGridPageChangedEventHandler.
But i still get the same error?!

protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e)
        {
            base.OnInit(e);
            this.Load += new EventHandler(Page_Load);
            MyDataGrid.PageIndexChanged += new DataGridPageChangedEventHandler(MyDataGrid_Page);

        }

What can it be?

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Are you sure that "mojoPortal.Features.UI.GuestbookandsignModule" which is declared as the base class in your .ascx is the correct namespace and class name from your code behind file? That doesn't seem right, I don't recommend using the namespace mojoPortal.Features.UI since we already have a project that uses that.

Also you should probably wrap this in your page load:

if(!Page.IsPostBack) { bindGridhans(); }

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Hello Joe,

I didn't realize the line Inherits="mojoPortal.Features.UI.GuestbookandsignModule" was there!

I followed the video-tutorials and created a new project in the mojoportal-solution.
With CodeSmith-Generator i created the new project "hvn.Web.UI". In that project i created a directory "Guestbook" and there i created the user-control "Guestbookandsign.ascx".

The codebehind starts with:

namespace mojoPortal.Features.UI
{

    public partial class GuestbookandsignModule : SiteModuleControl
    {
  // FeatureGuid eddf1d3b-3574-4a98-a4e9-faf73f9d8061

What do you suggest for changing?!

Thnx

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

When you use CodeSmith to generate stub code, it first prompts you at the top for things like author name and namespace. You should change those default values to something appropriate for your environment before generating. As an example, I followed the mojoPortal convention of using a UI namespace for features, and a Business namespace for supporting classes, so I use a namespace for our features called "esc.Features.UI".

For your already created feature, you can change the line "namespace mojoPortal.Features.UI" to "namespace Hanzie.Features.UI" (or whatever namespace you choose to use).

I hope that helps.

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

I suggest also remove this from your DataGrid declaration since you are wiring up the event from code.

OnPageIndexChanged="MyDataGrid_Page"

Hope that helps,

Joe

ps, thanks for the beer! much appreciated

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Hello, thnx for your replies. I'm gonna try both solutions.
I changed the namespace to Hanzie.Features.UI.GuestbookandsignModule. But when i did this VS2008 reported that al lot has to be changed and i really wanted to continue. I continued and after that al lot of Mojoportal specific functions where not recognized anymore. So i gonna start over and make a new project with my custom namespace.

I report later how its gonna go. Thnx. Later!

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Hello,

I tried again to run my guestbook. I completely build the user control (*.ascx) up again with help form the developer video's. De user control works without the datagrid for my user control. When i put the code for the datagrid in and my button i get again folowing error:

Guestbook/Guestbookandsign_ascx.ascx
System.Web.HttpCompileException (0x80004005): l:\Documenten\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\MojoPortal-source2\mojoportal_cc7dd5ee32dc\Web\Guestbook\Guestbookandsign_ascx.ascx(125): error CS1061: 'ASP.guestbook_guestbookandsign_ascx_ascx' does not contain a definition for 'btnSubmit_Click' and no extension method 'btnSubmit_Click' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.guestbook_guestbookandsign_ascx_ascx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

It again has something to do with the events not firing up !!

Does anybody does have any solution?! Its driving me nuts. My guestbook worked before implementing it in the mojoportal solution according to the dev-videos.

All i want is the captcha control to be used in my guestbook, so thats why i created the user-control according to the dev-video's.

PLEASE HELP.

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

change this:

<asp:button id="btnSubmit" onclick="btnSubmit_Click" runat="server" Text="Plaats!"></asp:button>

like this:

<asp:button id="btnSubmit" runat="server" Text="Plaats!"></asp:button>

then add this in OnInit:

btnSubmit.Click += new EventHandler(this.btnSubmit_Click);

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Custom datagrid clears complete page??

Hello Joe,

Wow, that did it!

I also had to delete the line OnPageIndexChanged="MyDataGrid_Page" in my datagrid-declaration.

I now understand that you can or maybe need to handle events in the code-file and add stuff to the OnInit-event. It is time to read on this!

Many thnx for you're help, it cost al lot of time.

Gr. Hanzie.
