Use of Flickr platform as web gallery

Hi all,

I can find vague reference on the sites that tell me it's possible to use Flickr as a web gallery with the Mojo platform. I'm able to make a Flickr sideshow, which shows the images of my photostream. The photostream is only intended to show new photos, not entire sets and I can only use 1 photo stream per account.

Can someone tell me wether it's possible to display full sets with this portal?

I'm also looking into using the built in Mojo galleries, but I'm having trouble styling this. My images have random sizes, and I've found no way to make a good layout which displays the pictures nicely. There are no <div> tags around the images, which would make things a lot easier...

This is the only issue that needs to be solved before I can go live with my new website :-)

Re: Use of Flickr platform as web gallery

Hi,

There is a newer Flickr Gallery feature in mojoPortal that is entirely javascript based and pulls in images from Flickr. I believe it can show your entire photo stream if you leave the set id blank in settings. I've setup an example on our demo site, but my Flickr photostream only has a few photos so it doesn't show that has support for paging through large photostreams. See the settings and click the help links in the settings for details.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Use of Flickr platform as web gallery

That is excellent. I didn't know there was a newer version available. I should check the homepage more often. Will do the upgrade, thx!

Re: Use of Flickr platform as web gallery

I notice that the new Flickr Gallery doesn't work properly in IE8... (perhaps even IE9, according to a client's email).

I tested this using several different skins (v.2.3.7) and got the same results. I also see these issues when viewing the example Flickr Gallery on demo.mojoportal.com.

Everything seems to be style-related... photo appears in top-left corner with no frame... overlay doesn't appear... you can't close a photo once opened... etc...

Any solutions in mind?

Re: Use of Flickr platform as web gallery

I don't currently have a machine with IE 8 available, but when I test with IE 9 it works as expected and when I set IE 9 to use IE 8 mode or even IE 7 mode it also works correctly.

Is this on XP or Win 7 where you are seeing the problem?

Re: Use of Flickr platform as web gallery

Update, actually it turned out my old laptop had IE 8 and I am able to reproduce the problem. However I have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it, there are no script errors and no obvious cause of this. The Flickr Gallery was based on this plugin demo and the same result happens when I visit that page with IE 8.

So at this point all I can do is acknowledge that this feature does not work correctly in IE 8. I guess IE 8 is the new IE 6, the bane of every web developer.

Sorry that I don't have better news on this at the moment. My recommendation is for everyone to upgrade to the latest version of their web browser.

Best,

Joe
