ecommerce sub-project vs. ecommercestarterkit

Why not integrate with ecommercestarterkit?  I'm not sure it makes sense to have ecommerce as a sub-project of a portal software, but integration makes sense to me.  There's already a lot of work that has been done on the starter kit.

Re: ecommerce sub-project vs. ecommercestarterkit

Hi Trevor,

The goal of the sub project is a feature that plugs into mojoPortal.

I've looked a little at the starter kit for ideas but it didn't have everything I need like support for multiple languages for things like product descriptions. It also has a very different architecture than mojoPortal and I wanted the architecture of the e-commerce feature to be consistent with the rest of mojoPortal and support multiple db platforms in the same way as mojoPortal.

I also needed the ability to bundle multiple products easily which I did not see in the csk. Nor did I see any special implementation for downloadable products and enforcing download terms which was also a requirement for this project.

I also reviewed the db schema of OSCommerce, so my design is informed by review of various implementations as well as my own thinking.

mojoPortal is more than a portal, it is also a web site framework and content management system. My vision is that it will evolve into a complete system for running a business with office like features, project management, crm etc.

Best Regards,

Joe

Re: ecommerce sub-project vs. ecommercestarterkit

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply.  Your points make sense.  I hadn't really looked at how CSK was architected.  Is the ecommerce sub-project ready for use?  I was thinking about using mojo for a new website that I'm planning, but had originally intended to use mojo just for the blog and content management and
CSK for the ecommerce.  I may rethink that now.

Regards,

Trevor

Re: ecommerce sub-project vs. ecommercestarterkit

Hi Trevor,

Its not a released product yet, it needs more work and QA before I will say its ready for use, but it is available for developers who can build the solution using source code from the svn repository in branches/2.x.

I've updated this page with more info on what is currently implemented:

Thanks,

Joe
